Unlike most people, I preorder games that I research and have had a good reputation from the developer. Preordering is showing support for the company. Will I do it for a game that's a piece of shit? No. Will I do it for tthe next portal or L4D? Maybe.
Reputation and trust means shit all.
Researching a game won't determine if it'll work on release or be good.
Pre-order isn't showing support. It shows that you're willing to fork over money for a game that's not finished, which gives developers less of a reason to make the game work.
Pre-ordering hurts the industry.
Pre-ordering every othe game title you purchase hurts the industry. For example, I plan to preorder Battlefront. You know why? Because there has never been a Star Wars game with a shitty story, even the gritty ones.I highly doubt Battlefront will break this example, you know why? Because the story team over at Lucasfilm is keeping DICE and EA in check to bring a good Star Wars experience.
You're pre-ordering on blind fanboyism over Star Wars. That doesn't excuse pre-ordering. You're also pre-ordering from EA. I'm a big fan of Halo, yet I don't pre-order them because I don't want to buy a game that has the possibility to be bad or broken. If it is broken, then pre-ordering it just shows MS that people will buy it regardless of how functional it is. Even if Battlefront does have a good story, that won't mean shit if the game is anything like what BF4 was when it released. Even if you don't play the multiplayer, you absolutely should not be okay with that portion being broken just because you don't play it. You shouldn't pre-order. Trust and reputation means absolutely nothing.

Whether that means they're scrapping it and making something new or if they're done for is up to debate.
