No it can't. A shit story is a shit story. Which Infinite isn't.
Uhh, yes it can.
AC3 has an awful story besides the Haytham sections.
Halo Reach has an awful story, but Jorge is a fantastic character.
I could go on.
Quote
Ap first it was shitty predictable twist now it's a good part of the game? So you're just hating for no reason. Ok.
You went on to talk about KOTOR, which is what I was responding to. Keep up with your own debate.
Quote
That's not what I meant. I meant several levels after meeting her you start to suspect it. It's not obvious at all.
It's pretty implied the entire time.
Quote
And it creates a lot of suspense. You don't know WHAT is going to happen when you go through the tear, especially the one with the gunsmith.
Okay, that isn't what I was debating. My original point was that they're jumping into tears left and right after that as if what Elizabeth had previously said never happened.
Keep up.
Quote
They usually don't, but when all of them are saying it's great, it usually is at the very least a good game.
"They don't, except for when it works in my favour" -ChallengerX
lol fuck off.
Quote
LOL The dialogue in Bethesda games are great you don't know what you're talking about.
Holy shit, are you really this incapable of keeping up? I never said anything about the dialogue in Bethesda games. I was talking about how they can't write a story worth shit.
Quote
I guess the whole defeat the Covenant and save the univers part flew over your head.
Blurb on the back of the box doesn't constitute as a plot. "Go shoot aliens before the big bad happens" isn't a good plot. You have pretty low standards if you think it is.
Also let's not forget all the gaping plot holes either.
Halo 3 is by far the weakest campaign entry in the original trilogy.
Quote
LOL Yeah you did you faggot.
When?
Liking Halo 4, and it having on of the better written campaignss in the series doesn't mean I think it sets any kind of bar for storytelling, because it doesn't, at all.
Quote
Except I listed 3 things.
So are you going to actually list anything besides repeating "it copies it because it has guns and stealth" iver and over and continuously fail to provide an actual refutation?

Master Chief Petty Officer John-117
Spoiler

Quote
Better known to the public as the Master Chief, is a SPARTAN-II commando of the UNSC Navy's Special Weapons division. He served as one of the most important figures of the Human-Covenant War. After nearly thirty years of active duty, he is one of the most decorated war veterans of the United Nations Space Command, having fought in more than two hundred ground engagements against the Covenant and Insurrection, earning every major service medal except the Prisoner of War Medallion.
Read his Halopedia article for full coverage.

Lieutenant Junior Grade Frederic-104
Spoiler

Quote
Born Frederic Ellsworth, is a SPARTAN-II commando. As of 2558, he is one of the few remaining SPARTAN-IIs and holds the highest rank among active-duty peers.

Frederic Ellsworth was born on the human colony of Ballast on April 3, 2511. He was abducted from his home in 2517 at age six after he was observed by Dr. Catherine Halsey and marked as a potentially exceptional soldier. He was trained with the other Spartans at Readh by Déjà and Chief Petty Officer Franklin Mendez and participated in numerous training exercises, including Spartans' mission to the  Military Wilderness Training Reserve.

During his training, Fred quickly proved himself to be on of the program's top candidates. Both Dr. Halsey and Chief Mendez identified him as one of the four emerging leaders within the SPARTAN-II group, along with Kurt-051, Jerome-092, and John-117. He was among the Spartans who survived the physical augmentations which enhanced their combat prowess to superhuman levels.
Read his Halopedia article for full coverage.

Petty Officer First Class Kelly-087
Spoiler

Quote
Born Kelly Shaddock, is a SPARTAN-II supersoldier of the UNSC Navy Special Warfare Command. She is renowned for her incredible speed, even without her MJOLNIR armor. As of 2553, she is one of the few active SPARTAN-IIs. She had participated in 201 operations-104 of which were full campaigns-as of 2558, more than any other Spartan with the exception of John-117.
Read her Halopedia article for full coverage.

Petty Officer Linda-085
Spoiler
Quote
Born Linda Pravdin, is a SPARTAN-II supersoldier. She is one of the closest friends to John-117 and on of the few known surviving SPARTAN-IIs. She is best known for her skills with the sniper rifle and serves as the sniper and scout of Blue Team. By 2558, she had engaged in a total of 189 military operations (of which 174 were full campaigns), most of them during the Human-Covenant War.
Read her Halopedia article for full coverage.

Fireteam Osiris
Spoiler

Spartan Jameson Locke
Spoiler
Quote
A SPARTAN-IV supersoldier and a former Office of Naval Intelligence agent. Prior to becoming a Spartan, Locke had the rank of Lieutenant Commander and served under ONI's Section III as an Acquisitions Specialist, his duties including the retrieval of important objects from the enemy as well as tracking and assassination of high-value individuals.
Read his Halopedia article for full coverage.

Spartan Edward "Eddie" Buck

Counting the time spent in cryo-sleep, Buck was a 25 year veteran of the Covenant War and served in numerous battles. He was regarded as an extremely skilled Marine and by the Battle of Earth, he was the leader of a small team, Alpha-Nine, which was appropriated by Captain Veronica Dare for a classified ONI mission before the drop on New Mombasa, Kenya on October 20th, 2552. Following the war, Buck became a SPARTAN-IV and eventually joined Fireteam Osiris, led by Jameson Locke.
Read his Halopedia article for full coverage.

Spartan Olympia Vale

Following the Human-Covenant War, Vale served as a professional diplomat for the United Nations Space Command, specializing in interspecies relations. While most SPARTAN-IVs are recruited from active field duty, Vale is an exception. Vale's enlistment in the SPARTAN-IV program comes after receiving stellar combat scores in training exercises despite minimal field experience.
Read her Halopedia article for full coverage.

Spartan Holly Tanaka
Spoiler
Quote
A human soldier of the United Nations Space Command who served in the years following the Human-Covenant War. She was one of the three survivors of the 2550 glassing of her homeworld Minab known to have endured the three year struggle on its barren surface. Shortly after their rescue Tanaka would enlist in the UNSC army, becoming a non-commissioned officer in the engineers, and later volunteered for augmentation and training as a SPARTAN-IV supersoldier.

Spoiler

Cortana
Spoiler
*Image below is from Halo 4.
Quote
Cortana was a "smart" AI in service with the United Nations Space Command. Unique and exceptionally powerful even among smart AIs, sh was one of the most important figures in the Human-Covenant War, and served as John-117's partner in the final months of the conflict. Her flexibility and tactical skill proved invaluable in boosting the combat ability of th Hayclon-class light cruiser Pillar of Autumn, the orbital defense platform Cairo Station and the Stalwart-class light frigate In Amber Clad. In addition, she held vital data pertaining to the Halo Array, including the activation index of Installation 04.
Read her Halopedia article for full coverage.

Catherine Elizabeth Halsey
Spoiler
Quote
A key scientific adviser to the Office of Naval Intelligence, best known for her work with the SPARTAN-II program, developing and creating smart AIs, and for overseeing the development of MJOLNIR Powered Assault Armor. She served as a scientific adviser for ONI from 2515 to 2522, when she was made chief scientist, a position she held until the end of the Human-Covenant War.

Halsey held considerable authority within ONI, despite being a civilian, and commanded respect from important military figures. Though generally well-regarded among her peers, she endured intense personal guilt for condemning the Spartans to the life of a super soldier. After the Covenant War, Dr Halsey was stripped of her position, incarcerated, and treated as a war criminal by the UNSC at large, which led to her apparent defection to Jul 'Mdama's splinter Covenant faction.

Thel 'Vadam (formerly 'Vadamee)/The Arbiter
Spoiler
*Image below is from Halo 2 Anniversary's Halo 5 cinematics
Quote
The Sangheili kaidon of House of 'Vadam. He was the last Arbiter to serve the Covenant, and continued to be widely known by his title in the closing months of the Human-Covenant War and in the post-war period. Presently he leads the Swords of Sanghelios and is considered by many to be the formal leader of the Sangheili on the whole.

Thel commanded numerous fleets during his service in the Covenant, most notably the Supreme Commander of the Fleet of Particular Justice, which mounted a successful invasion and occupation of the human colony Reach and later during operations on Installation 04. 'Vadam was responsible for over 1 billion human casualties during the war, and the glassing of at least seven colonies. During the Great Schism, Thel became a leading member of the Sangheili who seceded from the Covenant, and aided the UNSC in their effort to stop the Prophet of Truth and his forces from activating the Halo Array. He fought many battles alongside the "demon" John-117 on Installation 05, Earth and Installation 00 in the final days of the war.

Returning to Sanghelios after the conclusion of the war, the Arbiter went to become a symbol of Sangheili honor and resilience in the face of betrayal. He attempted to unite the feudal states across his homeworld in forming the first coalition since the First Age of Conflict, despite his efforts, he met resistance from many of his people, who felt his ideals and beliefs went against the traditional values of the Sangheili.

Captain Thomas J. Lasky
Spoiler
*Image below is from Halo 4.

Since at least 2552, then-commander Lasky served as Captain Del Rio's executive officer aboard the UNSC Infinity until July 2557, when Del Rio was replaced as captain by Lasky just prior to the Promethean assault on Earth.

Jul 'Mdama
Spoiler
*Image below is from Halo 4.
Quote
Known to his followers as the "Didact's Hand" or "Hand of the Didact", is a Sangheili shipmaster previously in the service of the Covenant during the war against humanity. Fueled by hatred for humanity after the death of his wife, 'Mdama became the supreme leader of a resurgent Covenant faction in the wake of the Great Schism. Despite years of eluding the public light, his activities on the shield world Requiem  established him as a high valued target for the United Nations Space Command.

During the Battle of Sunaion, the Warden Eternal was encountered by Fireteam Osiris and incapacitated them in battle with a hardlight blade. It then informed Spartan Jameson Locke that John-117 had been granted access to a nearby Guardian, though such permission was denied to Locke and his team.

On September 9th, 2549, when she was 16, she was on Arcadia during the planet's fall. Grant joined the UNSC Navy at a young age and was later accepted into the SPARTAN-IV program after its inception. Her athleticism and combat skills gained her placement in an operational division in which she field-tested early versions of MJOLNIR GEN2. She was soon given an active role as a Spartan and was eventually assigned to Fireteam Majestic.

Rules:
  • The closer we get to release, the more potential there is for spoilers. Near release, like in the MGS thread, spoilers will be all over the Internet. If you have the urge to post any spoilers, POST THEM IN SPOILER TAGS, AND LABEL SAID SPOILER TAGS. NO EXCEPTIONS.
  • There is also other Halo media releasing in the weeks leading up to Halo 5. The novel titled 'Halo: Last Light' releases this month. If you want to discuss it, like with the above rule, use spoiler tags, and label them as "Last Light spoilers" or something.

Progress:
Metal Gear 1 - Complete
First of all, fuck those floor traps.

In total, it took me around 4 and 1/2 hours to complete. I'll admit to having used a guide multiple times because I had no idea where I was going or what I was doing, especially in the beginning.

For a game released in '87, it holds up okay. The controller layout was a bit eh though. Triggers for the inventory screens wasn't a good layout IMO, and led to me accidentally going into them occasionally.
Thankfully the AI is fairly limited, meaning they can only detect you if you're directly in their line of sight, so getting through areas multiple times isn't a problem.
The bosses were pretty easy - Although, I did get run over by the tank a couple times because I'm an idiot.
How do you kill the flying dudess though? Other than funneling them through a door way, I wasn't able to kill them.

Also, what happens if you get the combination wrong when destroying Metal Gear?

I already know the basic plot for the series, so there wasn't any big surprise when the game makes it blatantly obvious that Big Boss is the leader of Outer Heaven.

Anyway, there's my short and shittily written "review" of the game.
Overall, I give it 6 Brent Rambos out of 10. Pretty enjoyable game all the way through, but nothing amazing that had me on the edge of my seat, although it did leave me wanting more of the franchise (which I'm pretty excited to continue playing).

I'll begin playing Metal Gear 2 tomorrow, and probably update this afterwards.
Metal Gear 2 - Complete
It took me just over 5 1/2 hours to complete. Again, I'll admit to having used a guide because these games are pretty confusing, especially when you need to backtrack half of the game.

Gameplay mechanics are much more improved over MG1. The addition of a radar and a crouch/crawl were very welcome additions to the already solid but basic gameplay of MG1.
Again though, like with MG1, the controller layout isn't that great.

The AI is a lot less dumb this time around, which made the game a little harder (there's now the alert mode, and never ending enemies in alert mode), and was sometimes a litte infuriating.
I was getting really pissed off at the beginning of the game because I kept getting detected and losing most of my health and wasting the first ration, so I kept restarting the game (like 3 restarts). I really wasn't enjoying the game up until after I beat Black Ninja/Schneider, after which it became much more enjoyable. This part wasn't even that difficult, yet I still kept getting caught and getting annoyed because I'm an idiot.

Like MG1, the bosses were very easy, but this time they were pretty creative and fun to do - Jungle Evil and Night Fright were definitely my favourites, and I enjoyed Big Boss' fight too. His dialogue before he fights you made it all the more better.
Fighting Dr Madnar was a little odd though. Snake is a highly trained soldier, yet he was getting strangled by an old fart.

The story this time around had significantly improved too. It had a lot more depth to it than it's predecessor, and character dialogue was written so much better, which made them far more likeable, especially Gustava and Gray Fox.
Easily one of, if not the best written games of its time.

Also, what's the deal with Gustava's name? Why was she called Natasha in the original MSX version, but called Gustava in the MGS HD version?

Aaand there's my second (somewhat) short and shite "review".
Overall, I give it 6.8 adult Brent Rambos out of 10. Very enjoyable game once I got past the part that was pissing me off. Still not amazing (don't get me wrong, it's a brilliant game), like I said with MG1, but it was quite a big step up from the first, and was definitely ahead of its time in terms of gameplay and story. And once again, just like MG1, has left me wanting even more out of the franchise than before.

I'll be moving on to MGS1 tomorrow (today, but you get what I mean), which I'm pretty excited to get into.
I probably won't finish it n one sitting because I assume it's much longer, and because I have work Sunday, meaning I won't be sitting up all night playing it. It'll likely be Sunday night or some time Monday when I'll finish it and update this thread.
Metal Gear Solid - Complete
Holy crap, this game was fantastic. Easily one of my favourite games now.
I really enjoyed it, despite getting annoyed a few times at the strangle/neck snap mechanic not being that great.
Besides that, the game holds up fairly decently for a '98 game in regards to gameplay. Backtracking wasn't anywhere near the amount that's in MG1 & MG2. Looks like Keksworth was lying.

The story was great from beginning to end. Kojima really does keep outdoing himself.
The atmosphere was brilliant.
The acting wass really good too, especially for a game that released when it did. The characters are all fantastically done and feel "alive", and all very likeable characters because of the combination of the acting and writing.
My favourite 3 characters were easily Gray Fox, Sniper Wolf and Psycho Mantis.
The cutscenes are pretty well animated, for a '98 game at least.

Also, having to run up all of those stairs while getting shot and clotheslined by soldiers was annoying though. Bad level design.

Boss fights
-Ocelot's fight was simple and easy, but enjoyable.
-Raven's tank fight was really easy because you can just circle him and spam him with grenades.
-Gray Fox's fight was a little confusing at first, but once I figured it out, it was easy, but again, enjoyable. He was such a great character.
-Psycho Mantis' fight was one of the strangest and more creative boss fights I've seen. Him telling you how well you've played the game and reading your storage was pretty cool. Super enjoyable.
-Sniper Wolf's first fight was annoying because the game just isn't designed all that well for FPS combat. It also didn't help that I was using the D-pad to play  (the PS3's controller is garbage. The thumbsticks are terrible) until the second attempt. Holy shit though one of her wolves scared me when I was crawling through the area before her first fight.
-Liquid's Hind D fight was fun, but ridiculously easy. Bullshit that he was able to survive that though.
-Sniper Wolf's second fight was easier this time because I'd gotten the hang of the sucky FPS controls.
-Raven's second fight, again, was super easy. Just sit at the corners with C4.
-REX was pretty fun to fight, besides me accidentally equiping the PSG instead of my Chaff grenades and got killed twice because of it. My fault though, not the game's. Also Gray Fox showing why he was a brilliant character, again.
-Liquid's fight was pretty easy. Mirrored the fight with Gray Fox in MG2.
-Fuck the car chase. I couldn't, for the life of me, hit him when he's driving on your left with the pillars between your car and his. This part really annoyed me.

"Review" 3 is finally done after finally completing the game after putting it on hold for multiple days.
Overall, this game easily deserves 9 dancing Snakes out of 10. I would've given it a solid (heh) 10 if it wasn't for my few small issues with the game.
The game was extremely enjoyable, and had me absorbed in it almost the entire time I played it.
This game has definitely secured a permanent place on my list of my favourite games ever, and as one of my favourite series too.

If anyone is reading this that hasn't played this game (doubt it), then I absolutely recommend it, even if you haven't played MG1 & MG2.

I'll either start MGS2 tomorrow/today (sunday), or Monday.
I need more of this franchise.

Metal Gear Solid 2 -Complete
Great game, but it's no MGS1.
Anyway...

Like I mentioned in the MGS1 "review", I got annoyed by the strangle mechanic being clunky and finicky.
But again, besides that, I really enjoyed the game.

I wasn't too invested in the story of this one though. I'm not saying it's bad, but just that it didn't grasp my attention as much. I'll definitely go back and replay it though after TPP.
The acting was mostly good, as always, but man is Raiden annoying and whiny. Really not a big fan of him.
The Colonel felt more robotic, which was probably intentional. If it was, then well done.
Snake is easily the best character in the game. A big step up from his MGS1 development and character.

The gameplay improvements are very welcome additions, but they need some tweaking. Like really, man. You have to press multiple buttons simultaneously just to shoot in first person. And the auto-rifles are the worst for this.
But at least the FPS aiming made killing guards easier.
Raiden's cartwheel was dumb though. I preferred Snake's combat roll.

Oh, and you weren't lying about the backtracking. I probably know Big Shell like the back of my hand. I'm not really complaining though.

Bosses
Tanker:
- Olga was super easy and nothing special. Not much I can say.

Big Shell:
- Does Fortune even count? You just sit behind crates until the lift arrives.
- Fatman was hilariously stupid but also pretty fun. Like seriously, a fat bomb espert on roller blades? Crazy shit.
- The Harrier fight was irritating the first try because I had no idea how to hit them. Once I learned you had to wait for the flash it became pretty simple.
- Vamp's fight was pretty good too. But I don't understand how he's able to wim in the water after he just said you can't get out if you fall in.
He did almost kill me with his things that stop you from moving though when I first got hit because I was pretty confused.
- Apparently the Tengus soldiers are counted as a boss fight, so... Yeah, fuck this part. I failed the corridor part so many times because Snake kept running into them and dying.
- RAY was easily my favourite boss fight. Not because it was hard or anything, but because it was cool as fuck. Dodging over missiles and shooting all 3 RAYs in one go was super satisfying.
-Solidus's fight would have ben better if it wasn't for the shitty sword mechanics. The first stage of his fight wasn't a problem, but when he goes to his GOTTA GO FAST stage is when he becomes a pain in the ass.

Almost forgot. Fuck Emma. Escort quests in any game are objectively bad.

Well, there's number 4 finally written up after like 5 days of having finished the game.
Overall, this game deserves an 8 on the Tom Hardy thumbs up scale. It's just behind MGS1 for a few reasons, but it's still a really good game.
The game built off of the solid groundwork of MGS1, and I'm glad it did. If the little issues I had regarding gameplay were addressed, I would've at least given it an 8.5 at minimum.

This game has even further cemented MGS as one of my most favourite franchises. Like seriously, I fucking love it so far.

I'll get around to properly playing MGS3 today (meaning Saturday, for all you non-Bongs). Pretty excited because of how highly praised it is. And it's a Kojima-san game, so it'll obviously be great.
Metal Gear Solid 3 -
Metal Gear Solid 4 -
Peace Walker -
Rising Revengeance (if I decide to buy it) -
Ground Zeroes -
The Phantom Pain -

I should probably stop typing these up super late at night whilst I'm super tired

lmao
Full price for a game that'll be a year old.

What kind of shitty deal did MS have with Square? Obviously not a very good one if you can pre-order it on the competing platform before the Xbone version is even out.

Link to article, with download link inside.

TL;DR Not 100% accurate to P.T. It doesn't infinitely loop, and it progresses quicker with stuff happening on the first loop.
