Seriously? It looks like a clone with a shittier menu design. Haven't played it though, so I have no idea how it feels.
Controls are completely different. It plays more like onimusha. Square is light attack, triangle is heavy attack. The only thing it has in common with souls is that you drop your experience in the ground when you die. I'm having a bit more fun now that I'm a decent level but for as hard as they're pushing the souls connection I was kinda disappointed.

Nioh was being touted as a soulslike game. It isn't at all. It's the new onimusha with a shit experience drop mechanic. The camera is shit, even on the lowest setting. The combat is irritating until you're level 30 and then it's just a button mash. The enemies are uninteresting and some are completely broken, you have to take damage. I get it's an alpha but I'm not real interested considering. Also, you asked.

Any recommendations for a build for NG+? For my first playthrough I went with a middle of the road pyro/dex and I was hoping to try either a quality build or pure heavy, because I've never done a strict melee playthrough.
Quality of course. Strict melee is the most fun imo, and quality allows for the greatest variety.
I second this, been doing quality builds since demon's souls. It hasn't always been kind to me but I do hella damage in 3.
