Also, this feels like the start of a horror movie. Film everything OP, when you die we'll find the footage and completely butcher the movie adaptation so we can make big bucks.
Or it could be the starting of skynet or a cure for something

Maybe in a few years. These new age commercial jets practically fly themselves and can dp approaches and set glide slopes on their own, but I don't know how well autopilots can actually touch down for the landing at the moment.
The pilots is there for taking off landing and just in case something goes wrong. Most people would not get on a plane without a pilot onboard
They pretty much are already so yeah once the tech is there. I think having remotely controlled commercial planes is more likely to happen first though
The pilot is there just in case something goes wrong
where in my post did I say anything to the contrary?
wrong person

Well it would be the ultimate "out of your comfort zone" experience, which does appeal to me, but at the same time, that shit would be scary af. What if something went wrong with the food/water/Oxygen supply on the ship? And the Homesickness wouldn't be too grand, I'd imagine.
Short answer: I don't know.
You have humanity greatest mind working on this project. No risk no reward
