What possible motivation do you have to play with spears and shields only?
They're fun, and they're the only way to play the game. Duh.
If they were the only way to play the game, you wouldn't be able to play the game any other way, but clearly that's untrue.

And if you think that's fun, you're right, but you can maximize the amount of fun by playing with no shield

To enjoy the Souls game, don't use a shield. That's a feature I think they should remove, but I'm not gonna make a mod about it, because I can just not use it, but I think that other people shouldn't use shields.
I don't care about your shitty opinion or playstyle. I could say the same thing from my perspective.

To enjoy the Souls games, don't ever go online. Use spears and shields only. Never use summons.

You are not playing Dark Souls correctly if you don't play like that.

See how obnoxious that is?
The pause button is something we can argue on equal grounds about, but as for how to actually play the game, I'm higher up than you.

What possible motivation do you have to play with spears and shields only? To never use summons makes sense, because you're meant to beat the game, not have someone else do it for you. Don't go online? Even if you choose not to, the game usually has a different way to try to show you that the world of Dark Souls has weird rules by having NPCs from another time invade your world, or assist you.

If you disagree with the feel the developers want you to have when playing the game, you shouldn't be so adamant on hating mods.
that makes me more adamant about my hatred of mods, actually, because it shouldn't be left up to the community to fix a game's problems
It's not a problem
it's a problem that the game punishes me for having other things to do with my life

it's one of those things that makes me want to play the game less so i don't even have to worry about it

great game design
It's your problem, not mine. I don't have things to do with my life. Just 'cause you have problems, doesn't mean I should see a reduction in the game's quality.
how does giving the player more options reduce the game's quality

especially when quitting the game is still a thing, it's just a bit more tedious

why aren't you against that feature?

wouldn't the game be 20x better if it strapped you to your chair until you beat it in one sitting?
Pausing the game ruins the feel of the game, so even if some people would enjoy it more like that, they should get ignored. If they really want it, they should mod it. You don't paint a different background to the original Mona Lisa, you take a copy of it and edit it if you really want to view her in that background so much.

A person shouldn't give up their own well to that extent just to enjoy the game. If you need a pause from the game, I think turning it off is better than having the whole world stop for your sake. Turning it off feels like you're disconnecting from the game world.
But why does how someone else plays a singleplayer game bother you? It doesn't affect how you play it.

I mean, I really don't like the kind of mods that get popular for bethesda games that add shit like Darth Vader and Iron Man suits, but it's easy enough to just not install them and ignore them.

Hell, fast travelling in Beth games is a similar deal (granted, the maps shouldn't be designed with fast travel in mind) but if you think you'll miss out on crazy experiences or random encounters, just don't fast travel. It's easy enough.

And also the just mod it argument is moot when talking about consoles. Plus, I've also heard dark souls PC ports are generally trash though I wouldn't know myself.
It doesn't bother me. They can buy the disc and use it as a mirror for all I care. All I'm saying is have you tried putting it in your console and actually played it? You'd enjoy it more that way.

It comes back to that thing I heard about where there was rumours or somethinh about a casual/ easy mode being added to DS and everyone flipped shit even though it wouldn't effect them in any way, shape or form.

It doesn't impact your experience playing, why does it matter.
because it impacts the experience. Might not be mine, but other people shouldn't play games in a way where you're missing a big plus.

I mean, ask yourself this: Why aren't there any shields in Bloodborne? It's a function that many would've liked, but it definitely ruins the gameplay and point of the game. Heck, they even make fun of the one wooden shield in the game on it's description.

when played offline, dark souls should have a pause feature—yes or no

Spoiler
the correct answer is yes
nah

One of the components of Dark Souls is unavoidable danger (even within the locations of fires, if you haven't shaken the trail of your hazardous followera). The inability to pause meshes with that.
or you could just not pause if you really value that aspect
Boy, I sure wish they made a mod that could pause the game  ::)

It's Half Life but with up to 16 players. I think some servers allowed even more. I got Banjo, Chally, and Casper to play, and it was pretty fun.

You seriously can't think of a reason to listen to what people have to say?
No; I can't think of a reason to listen to what the developers say what people think about the game.

You should buy the early access because it's not only cheaper
I disagree with this business model as it perpetuates predatory entries into the early access program. Maybe the game is 10/10 as-is. That's great, and I'll give it a fair shake when it's finished.
It gives you an entry point. Is the claim true or false? If I get the answer to this question it could be quiet an important piece of information.

If you have the patience to wait, go ahead. My opinion on early access is that if the developer deems it playable, it can be released. Updates will come along but if no more work were to be put in it, and it'd still be a good game, go for it. Sure it might give developers who aren't done with the game coverage to do the same, but I think it's up to the consumer to not buy such a title. You have to have the judgement to make the right decision.

I don't support early access, but I'll check it out when it's actually released.

“The game is fully playable, low in bugs, and well-balanced. Players have been enjoying the game over 13+ alpha versions we've released since our Kickstarter in October 2013, and many have reported enjoying the game for tens or hundreds of hours.”

"“The price may rise after Early Access. We're not sure. "

Why would I listen to what the developer has to say about what other players think about the game, and why should I support an obvious attempt to leverage a lower price for early access purchases? Purchasing unfinished games for full price is bad for the gaming industry.
You seriously can't think of a reason to listen to what people have to say? Sure, you might not trust the developer, but at least do a fact check. You wouldn't really need to, since in this thread two people have already talked about how seemingly great the game is, and both of these people have said that it's a 10/10 game.

You should buy the early access because it's not only cheaper, but because people have said that it's fine as it is, and well worth the price. Yeah, it might improve, but judging by reviews and the trailer, it's already a great game.
