The NFL is one of the biggest businesses in American History.
Which is why they should pay for their stadiums without taking tax money that should be used in better ways, i.e. fixing roads and whatnot. A stadium would be a minor asset to a multi-billion dollar industry.
Why shouldn't the city pay if they get all those benefits?
That would be the trade off? The city allows the NFL to build a stadium, and the city gets benefited by the revenue the stadium brings through tourism, taxes, etc. Making the city pay is backwards as shit, the NFL doesn't need help with money.
Cities don't "allow" the NFL to build stadiums and teams in their area. They beg on their knees for the NFL to come.
I highly doubt Los Angeles is begging on their knees for the NFL.
They have been for 20 years.....

That's not entirely true. The city's initial offer was $400m. But it was on the same site as Qualcom. Spanos held out for it to be Downtown by Petco Park, and wanted something like $700m. That family has been straight up abusive to San Diego. He also wanted to have most of the seats as "Premium," which keeps them untaxable.

Comic Con brings millions of dollars to the annual city revenue. People from all over the world come, and it's kept hundreds of local business alive. The NFL on the other hand just sucks up tax payer money since they like to pretend they're a nonprofit. Also the Chargers suck and no one cares about them except for local sports nuts. Most people wouldn't be too heartbroken if they left.
The NFL gave up their non-profit status years ago. Cmon bro. But you are correct that "most" people wouldn't care if the Chargers left.
The local paper did a poll, 51% of San Diegans disagree with you two. Sure, that means 49% are apathetic, but is it the team or organization that soured them? Would that change if the Spanos family sold the team?

I'm not so sure. The Spanos family has been clear they want to, I think this is for real. Barring San Diego footing the whole bill, I don't see them staying. But I don't see this turning out well for the Chargers. They will be going from one of two teams in a market to a pretty saturated city. They're not a winning team, and fans have options there.
