Today it topped out at 80. Nearly no humidity and a nice ocean breeze. Not a cloud in sight. No matter where you go, you smell all sorts of good stuff being grilled. I'm about to crack an IPA, and see the fireworks in the distance.

Our history is proud, but there are flaws. Look at it this way, have you fucked up in your life? Probably. Do you deny it and tell yourself that you're awesome and always have been awesome? Probably not. Your mistakes guide you to not repeating them. Why would our national story be any different? Crimes were committed by our ancestors. Can they ever be atoned for? More than likely not. But the drive to never repeat them can be recognized.

Say a massive solar storm happened and all electronic devices were rendered useless in a moment. Not just computers either. Everything not hardened for an EMP.
For the next fee years, you're gonna have to live on what you can kill or grow.
Figure the future will hold to these phases:
Disorder. As people realize what happened, they riit, loot, murder etc...
Dieoffs and famine. Basic services are broken and the disintegration of society is near complete.
Order 1. Small groups of survivors band together and the social contract is rewritten. The most valuable people are Farmers, anyone with medical experience and those with combat experience.
Order 2. The small communities band together in something like the Greek city states.
Reintegration. A new society is born.

Germans killed plenty of civilians.
My point is that the US isn't free of committing atrocities against civilians. To me your post made it seem like the US is some golden child compared to the Soviets when in reality we did some bad stuff as well.
And I wouldn't equate death camps to separate water fountains We didn't have death camps, but we sure did have concentration camps. We placed our own civilians in them out of fear of them for simply being Japanese. In the end the US wasn't any different than the Nazi's. A few generations before WW2 we committed genocide against the Indians, we placed our own civilians in CC's for being Japaneses and we treated people like shit for being black which was backed up by the government.
