The Flood / Re: Final Warning: make sure your email is up-to-date« on: May 06, 2024, 04:00:29 PM »Oooh. I mean yes and no. You don't see it, but we do get lots of spam bots in here. This will cut down on that a lot. It's also a way to self-moderate I'd like to try. Way easier to make sure people are friendly if you can incentivize good behavior with invitation rewards and punish bad actors with revoking invitation creation / demotion.Does Sept really have that much opp?Opp? Invitations won't be rare. I plan to have everyone's inventory auto-refresh weekly up to like a cap of 3-5. If it ends up sucking / not working I can walk it back. 3

The Flood / Final Warning: make sure your email is up-to-date« on: May 05, 2024, 09:53:34 AM »
Hey y'all. While the new site is NOWHERE near ready to show off, it's reaching a point where I have a majority of the user account stuff actually working (both front and back). Because of this, I do anticipate getting to the invitation system in the next few weeks.
The invite system is new and is essentially a guard against bots / bad actors by requiring an existing user to vouch for a new user via an invitation (tied to email). Everyone here will be invited and will be given a unique "Original" role that nobody else that registers on the new site once it launches will get. Y'all are gonna be special. But the invitations work via a whitelist / allowlist of emails, and those emails will be pulled from THIS database. You'll need to register again, but you can only do so if your email matches one on the list. Not on the list? Get bent. So if you have any interest at all in joining v3, make sure your email is correct and current. Like... do that this week if you can. 6
The Flood / Re: vtubers are all the rage, so we should have our own sep-chan« on: May 02, 2024, 07:19:47 AM »theres my idea to get traffic here. cheat, make it happenWait do you expect me to be your streamer personality? I'm many things, but I am not great at entertaining lol. If someone else wants to stream and advertise I'd be fine with it. Maybe just wait for v3? I make progress every week and within 3-4 months it should be more or less ready. 7
Septagon / Re: What I'm Working On« on: April 27, 2024, 05:13:35 PM »
Quick update: took a couple week break from working on the site to stand up my personal website to try to get more side-gigs. It had the added benefit of making me slightly better at Angular so there's that.
Authentication system is entirely setup now (front and back) with the exception of password recovery, password changing, and email changing. I guess I never announced this, but registration requires an invitation. The idea is that users can invite other users (which is the only way you can create an account). Users who are new (30 days or less) who get moderated will have an upward effect to the user who invited them. They will likely rank down and will have all their invites removed and will not be able to create a new invitation for x days (thinking probably a 2 week ban on this). On the flipside, the carrot is that there will be quests / rare items like nameplates and special ranks / roles dedicated to getting x number of new users registered and in good standing for 30 days. Ex: I'm thinking of making a role like "Paragon" or something that, among other things, requires recruiting 5 people (and anyone who gets moderated within 30 days subtracts from that total). Basically: recruitment will be baked into the entire system and incentivized. 8
The Flood / Re: New Fallout show is really good« on: April 23, 2024, 08:19:18 AM »
I loved the crazy mixed vibe of the show. It felt very light, like it could be playing on Disney or something and then a character gets their leg or arm or something blown off on camera.
I'll definitely be trying the games. 9
The Flood / Re: Septagon's TLD« on: April 18, 2024, 03:51:54 PM »aw, we're getting rid of the number?Yes. I plan to run the two concurrently during the transition period and then once this place closes, sep7agon.net will redirect to wherever the new site lives. 10
The Flood / Septagon's TLD« on: April 18, 2024, 08:03:37 AM »
What should be the site's TLD for v3? I already have these purchased and they will all redirect to the canonical, but wanted to get some input:
septagon.net septagon.forum septagon.app 11

Septagon / Re: What I'm Working On« on: April 07, 2024, 09:00:26 PM »No cap: I planned to have that be the inventory item all the old school users get that unlocks the “Original” role if they register.but rather than try to wait for everything to be ready, my new plan is to get the basics (auth, bare-bones user stuff like pw / email resets, thread creation, replies, post editing, etc.) and then add in the missing pieces as I go. This will mean the 3.0 site will launch without stuff like PMs, Coup, administrator tools, private groups, etc. BUT it will also mean users can be hands-on ASAP.I am surprised nobody done a joke about a "Print" button being an essential feature that should be added ASAP yet. 14
The Flood / Re: I will sell my soul to make this place more active« on: April 07, 2024, 08:45:06 PM »i plan to have it be an ongoing project so eventually who knows. It’s gonna have built in inventory / quests like out of an RPG.will it have twitch emotes? We need a 10 Years of Sep7agon celebration, CheatWill v3 suffice? For example: unlocking the reality stone will let you use coup / custom post design, which you will earn from a quest. Not sure about the details as I’m working on getting auth and profile management solid before I start on the community features. Once the app works as a basic forum I plan to launch it. 15

Wait it's a tabletop game? I've heard the name but always assumed it was something like WoW. I guess that's what I get for assuming and not actually looking it up.

The Flood / Re: Which countries have you visited?« on: April 01, 2024, 09:47:22 AM »
Too lazy to color in.
I've been to Canada and Thailand besides the USA (obviously lol). Also I've gone to the Florida Keys / parts of the Bahamas as a kid during a cruise. I had a layover in Japan, but never exited the airport. For the states: I've been to Missouri, Illinois, Kansas, Arkansas, Florida, New York, New Jersey, Pensilvania, Washington DC, California, and Washington State. There might be a few others as I've gone on two road trips to NYC / Florida, but I was just passing through them via car or bus. 21
Septagon / Re: What I'm Working On« on: March 29, 2024, 01:05:43 PM »
Coming back from a loooooong break and I'm picking up kinda where I left off. Laravel has moved on to newer and better versions, so I restarted the back-end service API and am in the process of getting everything moved over.
Front-end is being worked on at the same time and a lot of my work on that was also migrated over. Angular is super strict / annoying for a beginner to SPAs, but it's honestly been super fun being able to work on my own stuff again. I have lots of ideas (like eventually connecting the site to the Fediverse or having automated democratic elections for local moderators), but rather than try to wait for everything to be ready, my new plan is to get the basics (auth, bare-bones user stuff like pw / email resets, thread creation, replies, post editing, etc.) and then add in the missing pieces as I go. This will mean the 3.0 site will launch without stuff like PMs, Coup, administrator tools, private groups, etc. BUT it will also mean users can be hands-on ASAP. The first step of this I'm about to do right now. User registration will be switched off and this site will be deprecated. When I get the 3.0 site up, it will run alongside this one for as long as it needs to for the critical features to be worked out. I fully appreciate that a lot of you won't migrate over to the new site. Those that do, who registered before 2024, will be given some extra special perks and the "Original" role. I plan to import all posts and threads apart from Anarchy to the new place eventually too. 22

Not only am I here. I'm currently writing version 3.0 lol. Developing in Angular is ... an experience for sure.
