Great review. Could anyone with experience with the endings comment on each faction's conclusion? Like, how satisfying are they? I'm leaning towards the Railroad because the Institute are assholes and it's fun to fight vertibirds, but if the ending sucks I'll go a different route.
The only faction that feels like it has an actual buildup, climax, and ending, is the Brotherhood of Steel. I beat it with them and the Institute, and then saw the ending for Railroad and Minutemen. They pale in comparison.

BoS actually makes you make a few hard decisions, and the finale actually seems like it's a finale. The others do not in the slightest. Though there is one complaint, and it's...

that they just rely on Liberty Prime again as you make your way to the Institute. You would think they'd think of something other than relying on Fallout 3's final mission, but nah.

It honestly puzzles me how shit Bethesda are in regards to moral ambiguity. In F3 it was essentially just good guys vs the moustache twirling bad guys, so Bethesda's idea of improving on that was to make the BoS slightly more morally nuanced whilst neglecting the other two factions in F4.

Nah. I'm guessing either obscene amounts of Rad-X/ RadAway or they're perfectly happy becoming ghouls. I know there's one you met in the BoS questline who's a ghoul - makes more sense that there'd be a lot of ghouls.

Nah. I'm guessing either obscene amounts of Rad-X/ RadAway or they're perfectly happy becoming ghouls. I know there's one you met in the BoS questline who's a ghoul - makes more sense that there'd be a lot of ghouls.
going to one of their camps, i dont remember seeing any rad-x or anything of the sorts. they probably are hiding something.

Eh. The inclusion of that is pretty obvious fan service. Not complaining, he's awesome, but it's definitely fan service. doesn't have quite the same impact as it did before, though.

The Brotherhood's beef with the Railroad was really forced though. Maybe it's just because I ignored all the other factions because they never really made it clear how/ when helping other factions makes the Brotherhood stop liking you, but the BoS mission to exterminate the Railroad had absolutely no build up beforehand and the reason seems really forced.

I wish in one of these games you could unite the factions or at least clear up their misconceptions. The Brotherhood hate the Institute...because robots are abominations, apparently? The Institute has the brightest minds on the East Coast and they don't even question the personhood of robots specifically designed to be increasingly aware and autonomous, with personalities literally downloaded from human brains? The Railroad seems pretty justified but still unwilling to cooperate with anyone; the Brotherhood have no reason to go after these people.

It's more that the Brotherhood see Synths in the situation that eventually, Synths would outnumber humans and the question would soon arise for why they even need to keep humans around. In the Brotherhood's eyes, synths and robotics technology is just as dangerous as nuclear weapons, and they make it pretty clear that the Synths could well end up bringing the next apocalypse. to me, it's a very forced reason to make the Brotherhood fight the institute, and it's certainly very weak compared to the NCR-Legion, but it's not as bad as the F3 Enclave.

Another problem is I'm already bored with the world. No weapons in dungeons and all that = already being bored. That and it feels like a lot of the magic simply isn't there. Aside from the lore in some terminal, it's just boring to me now.

Really? I'm still going.

Granted, I had the patience to go through every dungeon in skyrim without getting bored, so maybe I'm just a weirdo.

I'm noticing that any kind of build aside from small guns is pretty difficult in this game, because of how expensive/ rare big guns and energy weapons ammo is and how stealth doesn't really seem to be a viable option anymore - at least when compared to Skyrim and even NV/ 3.

That's really it. Exploring for the sake of exploring, and while that's fine, a lot of what prompts people to explore is because games like this have a carrot at the end of the stick method, where they tease you into exploring in hopes of bigger rewards. You come across that random cave/building on your way to a destination? Why not explore it, you might find an interesting story or a really cool weapon or some neat looking armor if you do.

That's completely removed from Fallout 4 and it makes me actually think "do I want to waste 15 minutes in this building collecting things for my settlement, or just go to my objective?"

You know there won't be a good weapon in there, you know the armor won't be anything better than what you already have either. Your only hope is some legendary enemy in there drops something interesting, and odds are it won't be. I'm speaking from a high level perspective when I say this. By the time you're around level 20, it basically removes any real reason to explore anything unless you're naked or something.

Stealth actually works great, you just have to walk slower and you can't wear heavy armour otherwise enemies can hear you

I'm using leather armour with the shadowed/ whatever stealth upgrade but I'm getting noticed way too easily. My AGL is like 6 so it shouldn't be that. Unless there's some perks I haven't seen.

Mhmm, perhaps there's too much of an emphasis on modding weapons and armour, you basically HAVE to do it if you want good stuff

There is the occasional rare and unique item, like that Cryo gun in Vault 111 and I found Grognak's Axe and his outfit, but those feel like the exception rather than the norm

It definitely feels like they're trying to push the new system

which makes it feel even weirder when you do get a 'legendary' item with a unique effect. Personally,  think you should be able to deassemble those items and apply their effect to other weapons, but you have to find them first. Kind of like enchantments in Skyrim. Or you unlock the know-how to make a better effect.

Also, the lack of burning damage is really odd. I feel like a Molotov should do more damage over time than just the initial explosion. It just feels like a fancy impact grenade, really.

Have you unbelievers even considered that perhaps it is the work of Atom? I mean, fuck, there are fucking ghosts in the series and there's that Dunwich shit, aliens too. Atom being a real deity isn't too far fetched for the series. PRAISE ATOM!

Just wondering: Is there a reason why there wasn't a section detailing the technical side of the game, such as animations/performance etc.? I think the clumsiness of settlement building should be included as well. Good review though.

Because it's a Bethesda game and we all know what to expect from the same engine they've been using since Oblivion, and the glitches present. Though some animations in convo's did surprise me for the better.
