We need more linear games.

Sandboxes and rpgs have kind of taken over the game industry.

Games where you can kind of go around and do what you like, and spend a lot of time exploring and deciding what want to do are fun, and offer a lot of replayability,  but every now and then I want a more cinematic experience.

It seems like all of the games I have in my library like that are just shooters.

I'm really looking forward to playing some more linear games in the future, does anyone else share this sentiment?

I 100% agree.

Lately, "linear" has become almost a swear word to gamers, and I don't know why.
Linear games were great.

Yeah but I want more than 45 minutes of gameplay.

Ye I don't have the time to juggle multiple Witcher 3's or GTA's.
Sometimes its nice to just be taken on a ride every once and awhile.

Turn based combat usually gets a lot of flak as well, but I enjoy it. Main issue is when too many games are doing the same thing. Variety is a good thing.

I like a good story evey once in awhile and sometimes I just want to kill stuff and be a badass

Take dragon age inquisition for example. It's a game I LOVE. The story wasn't inherently bad (wasn't great) but I could never feel a sense of urgency it real emotion with the characters. Yeah the badguy is gathering an army and he's kidnapped my friends, whatever that can wait I need to kill 10 dragons and run around gathering crafting material.

Where on the other hand you have the last of us, another game I love. Sure it doesn't have the scale or sense of freedom dragon age has. I can't get lost in the world or explore, but I actually Cared about Ellie. I wanted to save Joel. I was sad when people died.

Linear games and open world games are just 2 different experiences and I think we need to balance both. Yeah open world is cool but EVERY game doesn't need to be open world.

That's what I love about games like Ratchet & Clank, too, because they're sort of hybrids.

I miss the levels where you can hunt for crystals in a massive level and the space battles.

The angel agreed to trade a set of white wings for the head of another demon. Overjoyed, the demon killed one of his own and plucked the head right off its still-warm body.

The angel then led the demon to heaven, where he underwent centuries of the cruelest tortures imaginable. Finally, the pain was so great that he lost consciousness - at which point his dark wings turned the promised shade of white.

His eyebrows sparkling, his white beard hangs down to his chest. The thatched mats, spread outside his chise, spread softly, his splendid attos. He polishes, cross-legged, his makiri, with his eyes completely absorbed.

He is Ainu.

The god of Ainu Mosir, Ae-Oine Kamuy, descendant of Okiku-Rumi, He perishes, a living corpse. The summers day, the white sunlight, unabrushed, ends simply through his breath alone.
That's one of the main reasons I was happy about Star Fox Zero. I love open world games, but linear games provide a different yet equally great experience.

Also, game media has completely ruined the term "cinematic experience" for me.

A flower which blooms on the battlefield
It does get a little overwhelming.

I still have Far Cry 4 to finish. I stopped playing that because I got Sunset Overdrive. I finished that then got Inquisition, which I haven't finished because I got sucked into TW3.

I'm just waiting for games like Halo 5, UC Collection, Tomb Raider and UC4 for my linear fix.
