If it means we could go for 60 but lose something that would really impact the player's experience, then it's our choice as developers to say, 'Well, we're going to go for the experience over the 60 frames.'"

EDGE states that a debug station visible on the floor showed that the game was running at 37fps.

Better frame rate allows for a more smooth experience, having a low FPS in games can cause motion sickness for some people if it tanks too low. A great FPS allows you to see more of the action on screen without all the blur that a lower FPS causes.

Example, Crysis 3 on the PS3. Terrible frame rate that always tanked below 30. Made me sick and gave me a headache to the point where I never played and returned the game. A good, stable FPS does matter. 30FPS is ok if your game cannot handle a higher fps due to its visual quality.

However, purposefully downgrading the FPS for the lie that is "cinematic" is pathetic. If a game can reach a stable 60FPS then thats amazing, and makes the game play better. But if you cannot reach that goal, then a good 30FPS is viable for that reason alone.

Really? Because I can't tell at all. Believe me, if I'm playing a game, the last thing I'm concerned about is the frame rate. Unless the game starts lagging, obviously.

Computing power is finite, any particular decision to aspire for higher graphical fidelity is a trade-off with other parts of the game, trying to pick out any one specific decision (like 30 vs 60 fps) as universally correct or incorrect is a very difficult argument to make.

Really? I can see the difference clear as day, but I guess there are others who cant tell. Have a good FPS is one major thing I care about, especially in a multiplayer game on PC.

In a way, I think that makes me more fortunate. Because I'm not hindered by it. I don't let it bother me. It's one less thing, if I'm playing a game, that I'll worry about. That's great.

I use this same logic with music and video quality. I can't tell the difference between 480p and 720p. Audibly or visually. It's better that I can't tell--I can listen to any music on YouTube without being like, "Ugh, this is in such bad quality." I'm satisfied with everything.

So as a result, I think caring about stuff like this--treating frames like they matter, as long as they are consistent--very stupid. And petty. All I care about is the consistency. Saying 60fps is better is like saying two pennies is better than one penny. You'd be absolutely correct--but you look foolish for acting like it makes any big difference.
