Would you restrict what games you child could play?

This is the way the world ends. Not with a bang but a whimper.
Say you have a 14- or 15-year-old son; there's a fair amount of controversial aspects of video games, such as GTA V's torture scene or MW2's "No Russian" mission. While these may be appropriate for an adult, they're probably not for kids/young teens.

So, would you restrict your kid?

His eyebrows sparkling, his white beard hangs down to his chest. The thatched mats, spread outside his chise, spread softly, his splendid attos. He polishes, cross-legged, his makiri, with his eyes completely absorbed.

He is Ainu.

The god of Ainu Mosir, Ae-Oine Kamuy, descendant of Okiku-Rumi, He perishes, a living corpse. The summers day, the white sunlight, unabrushed, ends simply through his breath alone.
Entirely depends on the maturity of the kid in question.

Speaking of anecdotes: I have reason to believe, via personal experience, that restricting your children from playing certain games will lead them to continue playing more tasteful games well into their adulthood (ie. they'll be less of a degenerate).

My dad, though he was okay with playing Vice City in front of me as a child, wasn't very comfortable with letting me play the game myself, because I was only around 10 years old at the time. Just watching him play, however, allowed me to contemplate all the things he was doing and evaluate them morally. I'd ask him questions like, "What are you doing?" And he'd answer, bluntly and honestly.

"Why are you driving an ice cream truck?"
"I'm selling ice cream to children. They're laced with drugs."

I remember when he introduced me to the sniper rifle. I asked him what the sniper rifle did, and he demonstrated by sniping a civilian from a building. His head exploded in a geyser of blood. After awhile, the implication of my dad shooting innocent people started to become apparent, so I asked him, "Why are you killing all these people?"

"Because I'm the bad guy," he said. "I mean, I'm not a bad guy, but you play as a bad guy in this game."

At that point, it clicked. Either way, I decided that the game wasn't for me, because I didn't have any interest in being a bad guy, and shooting innocent people didn't really seem like something I wanted to do. I'd rather be a good guy doing good things, and I was scared that if I played GTA, I might become a "bad guy" myself. That didn't sound like fun to me.

And to this day, it still doesn't. I've still never touched a GTA game in my life, and I'm three years above the recommended age. Most M-rated games are (or contain) tasteless garbage, and if my dad hadn't shown me that at an early age, I'd probably be just like most of the degens here, playing dumbass games like Grand Theft Auto or Saint's Row.

Not "not snickering at far jokes" mature, but being able to understand that the examples given in the OP are meant for shock value and should not in any case be viewed in a positive light.

To that end, mentally maturity is a general phase of life, not tied down to a year. I'd argue that there are people in their thirties less mature than teenagers.

You either die a hero or live long enough to become Mythic..
If he/she turns out a lot like me, at 12-15 I don't see why not.

Younger than that I would limit some though. Like Halo and similar games that are very rarely "Mature" I wouldn't restrict. However GTA or Doom at age 11 is a complete fuck no.

Depends on child's maturity. Speaking generally, I'd be cool with something like Halo at around age 13, but something like GTA would have to wait until 16 or something.

You will find out who you are not a thousand times, before you ever discover who you are. I hope you find peace in yourself and learn to love instead of hate.
I let my little cousin play gta on my xbox. All he does is drive cars like the A.I, change clothes and fly planes. I once took the controller off him and started shooting people and he became angry with me because I "hurt other people" I hope he isnt gay.

I don't know if I'd restrict them from everything, but I would easily have a talk with them about it. Even with the torture scenes in GTA, it wasn't exactly brutal as compared to other games. Hell even in The Walking Dead 2 when Clem is healing herself, it's more brutal.

It's honestly more so the online interaction with games than the single player I'm worried about. The amount of shit you hear kids say online with the swearing and racism is where I'd have my talk, and if I ever heard my kid saying half the things I hear CoD kitties say, I'd easily take action.
