So let's summarize. Bungie asked Marty to make the series's soundtrack all at once instead of individually. Marty did that, and then got pissy when they wouldn't release it (presumably because he wanted that sweet profit-sharing). And then when Activison/Bungie swapped some trailer music, Marty responded in some disruptive way (of which I've seen no description) that was apparently bad enough to get him suspended, and then when he came back his co-workers claimed he was disruptive and unhelpful, and we also know the game's release date was pushed back because Marty refused to finish sound effect work until the game was completely finished.

I'm not a fan of Bungie's new model, but Marty had a really good thing going and he just kind of pissed it away. It really doesn't seem like anyone was out to get him.

Going to address this part quick -

The game wasn't pushed back from September 2013 because Marty refused to do sound work. It was pushed from Sep 2013 to March 2014 because Bungie (Or Activision) decided to scrap the entire storyline, and with it, most of the cutscenes and scenarios in the game.  Marty wanted a complete game after the original scrapping because, likely, he didn't want to rush a shit ton of work that would normally take years into a span of five months.

We also know that Marty wasn't fired to mid-April, so he wouldn't have been the sole reason for another delay.

As I understand it, Marty previously had a say in Bungie's promotional trailers, at least since Reach. They suspiciously asked him to make music for stuff that doesn't technically exist yet, and then didn't even use that music, to his objections.

Marty had particularly high requirements for audio that involved many (for a video game) specific changes depending on the player's progress through the level. It's difficult to sync that up when a level isn't even done yet.

And then after usurping responsibilities that he's had for years, they try to cheat him out of assets to which he's legally entitled.

I'm not saying that he was completely in the right, because it does sound like he possibly could have handled it better (and if you're looking for evidence of Bungie's claim that his performance took a toll, just look at Dinklage's performance--that fell under Marty's responsibilities, too). But breaking the law because a longtime employee felt third-wheeled and thus burned a bridge is worse.

Marty holds himself to a high expectation because he knows the music he producing is great. So he's going to be upset when he creates 10 years worth of music and then it is thrown out the window and replaced by a corporation. Marty isn't someone who is going to let a corporation tell him how to do his job. Because he knows how to do it and has been doing a great job for years.  After August when Joe left and they had to redo much of destiny I'm sure it was a major blow to his morale, and you can see it in the voice work.

Also for all the Halo games he worked on it had to be in a generally stable bug free state so he could play through it and examine where to add musical cues.

It was one trailer. His work will still be present in the entire Destiny series. Nothing was thrown out the window, they probably just swapped the song with something more like pop rock to appeal to new fans.

I'm not anti-Marty at all, but I think people are seeing drama where there is very little.

It was the music they used to reveal destiny at e3.

If you were Marty and Microsoft decided to throw in their own music instead of the music you created specifically for the trailer which is a very important one, then you would be pissed as hell. What if it happened to the Halo 3 reveal, it would would have been very different.

Well no, I wouldn't, because they would be writing my paychecks and are ultimately in charge of any content that is put out.

You either die a hero or live long enough to become Mythic..
Pretty interesting that Joe Staten left a month after Activision got heavily involved in the story side of things. I think this all but confirms the fact that Activision is responsible for the current "story" in Destiny and Joe left the company due to the mutilation of his baby.

Joe and Marty seem to be close too, as Marty not only advertised the book on Twitter, but Mart has been sending his followers there.

Seriously Joe, join Highwire Games, you two can do some amazing stuff together

Last I heard Joe was happy with his position as the creative director for Microsofts entertainment division.

Yeah, these are the ones he's working on.

Glad to see him working on MS, they always seemed to treat people better than Activision.
