Why do sports games now have these fancy titles?

You buying Fifa every year just tells EA that they can continue to sell the same game every year.

Good. I hope they keep making (in my case Madden) FIFA every year. Its a great game.
Supporting shitty business practices doesn't benefit anyone and is the reason the industry is like it is.

If you want the same game every year, why the fuck do you hand over $60 to shitheads like EA every year if you already own it?

You're paying $60 for roster updates and a new skin, both of which could be done through free patches.

Fuck I quoted the wrong comment chain lol.

I'm running off a combined 15 hours of sleep from the past three days.

EDIT:  Basically was just adding that along with just essentially roster changes and new graphics engines, some sports games slightly alter or get rid of their General Manager/Coach modes, either for the better or the worse.

If I'm not here, I'm doing photography. Or I'm asleep. Or in lockdown. One of those three, anyway.

The current titlebar/avatar setup is just normal.
The only notable difference I have seen between Fifa 2003 (PS1) and Fifa 2013 (Xbox) was the graphics and the AI weren't so retarded. Oh, and all the players were different. And the cost for the latter was far higher brand new...

You could argue CoD has been very similar over the same time period, and I'd generally agree with that too. Battlefield has definitely changed since it's early beginnings, although I think for the worse as it's now in-line with CoD. As for AC, I've never bought any myself but my brother has all of the ones up to current-gen (AC3, I think?), and while they have vastly improved from AC1... I wouldn't warrant paying full price for those changes, expecially between AC2 and Brotherhood/Revelations - they could easily have been £20 DLC rather than a £40-50 standalone.

lets be real, no game would ever release that much content for free.

So you say AC gets a new engine, new story, and new characters, 200 hours of content.
So do Sports games. New physics in gameplay, New GM mode (Story mode), new rosters (New characters), and within the MUT or My Career mode I can easily put 200 hours in that.

--Slightly tweaked engine physics aren't comparable to new or entirely overhauled engines, and it doesn't warrant $60.
--GM mode is a story mode? I don't think you know what a story is. Plus it's the same thing in every iteration. Nothing new and not $60 worthy.
--New rosters is just switching around players. Something you can do yourself. Not worth $60 in the slightest.
--Ultimate Team and My Career are just the same thing from previous iterations. It's nothing new, and all you do is play a match, over and over again. That's hardly something that took a lot of effort on EA's part. Again, not worth $60.

You're a complete moron for handing over $60 every year to EA just for a game you've already bought.
Everything that you've tried to make out as something new can be done through patches, paid or otherwise.

Goodness gracious, great balls of lightning!

lets be real, no game would ever release that much content for free.

Really now, they don't? Let me give you a prime example.

This is all what Starcraft 2 has and its all shipped with the game:

Starcraft 2 (both expansions)

- Over 50+ campaign missions

- 3 races to play as with dozens of different ways to play the game as each race

- Hundreds of achievements to unlock by doing various things. They can go from Winning games to doing something crazy.

- Unlockable Player Avatars, Custom Decals for your forces, Dance/Cheer Animations for units, and unit skins.

- Extension Mods allow you to change the way you play the game or even create your own. They can go from having Zombies randomly spawn around the map and attack the players, have infinite resources, have all 3 races available from the start of a game, or spawn whatever you want/change unit abilities.

- Map Editor that lets you create just about ANY type of gamemode you can think of. I'm still blown away as to what people can make.

- Ranked and Unranked Matchmaking with up to 8 players.

- Intense Ranking System with Bronze, Silver, Gold, Diamond, Master, and Grandmaster Leagues. Good luck trying to get into Grandmaster.

- Watch Replays from your games, download Replays from other people, and you can watch them with others. These Replays also save to your computer so you can upload them to YouTube if you want.

- The game has this thing called "Swarm Levels" which allow you to unlock various Avatars and custom decals for your armies to show off. You gain exp for building units, killing units/buildings, buying upgrades, and winning. Each race has a maximum Swarm Level of 35.

- You don't even have to play the core game. You can just spend your whole time in the Arcade and play ALL the games that the community comes up with.

Oh, and you can't do any of this in any sports game:

Nobody is forcing you to buy fifa, if you don't think £50 is worth it then don't buy fifa, simple. Meanwhile I think it is worth it
Aaaannnnd that's why the industry is like it is.
People like you lap up the newest reskin of a franchise every year.

If people were clever enough to stop buying copy/paste rehashes every year, then we'd get something new and different enough to warrant a £50 price tag.
Just because I buy Fifa doesn't mean I don't buy the games you would never, like Wolfenstein, Shadow of Mordor, Sunset Overdrive, fantastic games that are driving the industry
That doesn't cancel out buying Fifa every year.
EA don't give a fuck if you buy other games. They only care that you line their pockets with cash. You buying Fifa every year just tells EA that they can continue to sell the same game every year.
Quote
doesn't mean I don't buy the games you would never
What?
So tell me, which games have you bought recently?
CoD?
Mario?

Or nothing at all, better to support the industry then to not at all
This year?
The Witcher 2
Telltale's TWD
The Wolf Among Us
Black Flag
TLoU
Unity
Shadow of Mordor
TellTale's Game of Thrones

Supporting shitty business practices doesn't benefit anyone but those pulling the shitty business practices.
And before you go "hurr AC", I've already made a big list of how AC is anything but a rehash each year.
It's more supporting TellTale, honestly I don't understand why their "games" are so popular.

And I refuse to support AC, it's been butchered and their open chance to innovate and dominate in the genre has been squandered-hopefully the sequel to SoM will totally demolish the franchise

I'm not avoiding anything. I just don't care enough to respond, I've had these conversations before.
So then if you don't care enough to respond about that question then why did you even both to bring up that change statement? You must have cared greatly thing to bring up a high horse statement like that.
Quote
You think $65 for a sports game isn't worth it, thats cool. However, thats subjective and by the looks of XBL numbers, MANY people disagree with you.
The amount of people that buy the games still doesn't change it being a waste of money. These people are paying full price for a game that's nothing more than a texture pack. Hell I wouldn't even go that far to call it one. Each year it's simply a player change. These people are paying full price for a game that's basically a skin pack.
Quote
Sports games are consistently some of the top played games every year.
Good for them.

So, because it's players and teams instead of guns and maps it's not worth it?
When you're paying full price for a game that's nothing more than a skin pack every year then it's not worth it. You're paying full price for something that would either be free or coast around 1 for a DLC in some game.
Quote
And like I said, you go play the Fifa games from the early 2000s to now, there is far more evolution than there has been in the FPS genre for one.
So besides the engine being updated which every game does and there being goalkeeping that's more like goal keeping. What evolution is there that would have more changes to it than what the FPS genre had?
Quote
You are judging yearly instalments vs tri-yearly instalments. So how about thinking Fifa 12-Fifa 15, or 07 to 10-because to say they are reskins is just ignorance
So then what have these games done to prevent them from being reskins? Does one game have spin off game modes like a Tron styled thing? Does one game have cars being used to move the bar around? What changes are there that prevents these games from being simple reskins besides engine updates? Unless you make up gamemodes or a spin off version there's only so much you can do.

It's very clear that this is your summary of views on the industry as a whole with sport games being your scapegoat, what you have said could easily be said about ANY genre, plenty of them more so than sports games. Like, for example, racing games, fps games, strategy games, etc...
