When are microtransactions going to die off?

They've been infecting AAA gaming for a while now. I remember when people were freaking out over the horse armor DLC in Oblivion, and now it seems that stuff like that is everywhere. So when can we expect this cancer to finally die off?

I love you, son.
Probably never, although the reaction to Shadow of War gives me some hope.

If you know, you know.
If people boycott games that have MTs'. Games with MTs do not make money, games that do not, do. We should see less of them. But this has to be done by over 80% of buyers. Otherwise, 1000 less sales won't matter.

Unfortunately normies buy into this sort of thing and there are also the morons with the "no one forces you to buy them!!!!!" mindset. Games like Halo 5 and GTA Online make way too much money from microtransactions for them to be abandoned anytime soon.

The initial sale should be enough. If development is so expensive that you need to rely on post-sale $$$, you need to let some staff go. Preferably the CEOs, CIOs and other fucks who don't do anything but make bad decision that make people below them lose jobs.

If I'm not here, I'm doing photography. Or I'm asleep. Or in lockdown. One of those three, anyway.

The current titlebar/avatar setup is just normal.
As long as there are idiots with more money than sense then it will likely continue, and as seen with Bethesda, will push it on through regardless of popular opinion if there's profit involved.

The angel agreed to trade a set of white wings for the head of another demon. Overjoyed, the demon killed one of his own and plucked the head right off its still-warm body.

The angel then led the demon to heaven, where he underwent centuries of the cruelest tortures imaginable. Finally, the pain was so great that he lost consciousness - at which point his dark wings turned the promised shade of white.
DLC and season passes too. Unfortunately the majority doesnt seem to care about games being cut into pieces and being nickel and dimed.

Season passes died when they got cancerous enough there was a major pushback. Give it a few years for something like paid mod (microtransactions) to actually make proper mods unusable or something equally as ballsy and people will stop buying into it. Shadow of War has been brought up already, as an example.

The next Bethesda game will be intentionally difficult to mod so that people are encouraged to use the Creation Club.

PC players will get around it, can't say the same for console though.

Not until gamers are willing to pay more as games become more technically complex and expensive, or at least increase with inflation. $60 ten years ago would be worth about $72 now, for example. The fact is that many big games these days are worth more than they're sold for, and subsequently have to be cut up and released as fragmented DLC with season passes and microtransactions picking up the slack.

Video game developers are not moral beacons, they're business people
There is literally no reason for them to stop downgrading their games and making microtransactions

I actually think Micro transactions are good for the industry as a whole. And for the most part the implentation of them has good to me as a consumer. The price of a AAA game has stayed the same for over a decade while the prices of other goods rise. Microtransactions, season passes, and DLC are the reason.

As long as there are no items locked behind a Paywall for me after I pay my full 60 then I am completely fine with microtransactions. Halo 5 has the best system to date imo.

Despite everyone losing their god damned minds over the Req packs when they first came out, 343 not only made said req packs fairly easy to get by grinding out the game, but also made the ones that affected gameplay only usable in Warzone.

They then took the money from all the microtransactions and funneled part it back into their own game, allowing them to move out a ton of free DLC every single month and put money into the HCS prize pool which increases interest in their own game and literally revived the Halo scene.

Microtransactions done right are a good thing. Wish more people would realize this. If Microtransactions weren't a thing then we'd all likely be paying anywhere from 80-100 for base AAA games nowadays.
