Came across this series, basically a guy talking about how he would have rewritten Skyrim - the worldbuilding, main quest, Dragonborn, Dawnguard, Civil War etc. It's long winded but it's well worth a watch if you want something to listen to.

Bethesda games ought to just start excluding a main quest. There should be factions and conflicts occurring that can drive a pc to participate in them and accumulate wealth and stature, but the best part of TES and modern Fallout is going off the path and building your own adventure.

Or hire competent writers, but those are in short supply in the gaming industry.

i play like that but i know plenty of people who dont

the whole single player role play aspect is lost on a lot of people

maybe not people here but people you just meet on xbox or whatever randoms who will just "complete" the game and its finished for them

they have to sell the game for those people too

doesnt look like its going to get any better after the last fallout, i like the crafting and combat but everything else i play any bethesda rpg for the rpg aspect was gone

in the end it was an okay pve fps

Not to be one of "those" people, but Morrowind did it the best way; the story was built around the fact that you're new to the land and didn't push you down a certain set of quests. You could choose your house and build your name through your choice in adventures, which culminates in the finale. Every playthrough will end with the same few quests, but you don't feel railroaded into it because all of the "main quests" just play out like side quests that tie into your goal. Hell, every quest was related. It kept everything focused and resulted in a stronger overall narrative.

You will find out who you are not a thousand times, before you ever discover who you are. I hope you find peace in yourself and learn to love instead of hate.
With what we got as Fallout 4 Bethesda is probs going to give us the same formula for the next ES. Which is sad of course.

Nah, they've openly admitted to some faults with FO4, like the voice acting.

Yeah you can still upload mods bethesda doesn't like, but people just have to download them quick before they get removed.

while its a step in the right direction fixing the shitty dialogue options doesnt fix the rest of the game

id like to hear more of what theyve admitted to instead of pretty much handing the reigns to their playerbase to mod a playable experience out of it

as much as i like mods for fixing the small stuff fallout 4 really phoned it in for the base rpg aspect

They also said how the all combat missions thing wasn't intentional and more a result of bad communication between the teams making the game.

well good

i just hope it has a good number of handcrafted quests like at least the amount in skyrim

fallout 4 quests were abysmal in that ive explored some dungeons and on more than 4 occassions had a line that said "oh ive already done that quest for you gibe reward"

you wouldnt have finished half the handmade quests even in skyrim given 500 hours yet ive done it in <150 in f04, and thats including the time i wasted on the settlements

I don't know tbh it really depends on what direction Bethesda wants to take their games, maybe they misread consumer data. I wanted to write about how Bethesda took a more casual approach to Fallout 4 to appeal to a larger audience but looking at sales data other than Fallout 1 & 2 their other games all hit 10mil plus so I don't understand their rationale if they were going for a 'more casual more sales' approach.

My impression is that they're just lazy and don't want to put in the work necessary for games with as much depth as Morrowind or Oblivion, when they can make a shitload peddling shit like Fallout 4.
That's not it at all. They easily put effort into the games and care, but they know that making it more casual = more sales. Morrowind wouldn't appeal nearly as much to the masses as Skyrim would for that very reason. The mechanics would frustrate the casual player, and that's what they are targeting. Get epic music and a nice scenery, and nothing INSANELY in depth, and you have it.

It's the way a lot of games go. $$$ is what drives the industry, regardless of how much we want to say it's an art.

I would also recommend a leveling mod. Some people consider it cheating
It's not that people consider it cheating--it's that it is factually cheating. She's gonna do what she wants anyway, but don't encourage this. During one's first playthrough, the game should be experienced in its raw state, flaws and all, so that one can experience everything for him or herself. Maybe she would've liked the old leveling system--you have no idea.

id say its cheating if it makes it easier by most measures, like its faster or simpler

it could be more difficult or in depth, who knows

but yeah id play the game normally first too

Some level mods make level progression much slower ergo making the game harder. In fact, most of the one's I've seen for TES games do this. The community seems to have this general consensus for slower leveling.
