Xbox OG units have a history of laser-reader blockages. Just pop open the console and clean the lens.

It wouldn't.

Opening it up wouldn't be difficult, really. You wouldn't even be removing anything besides the case.
There's nothing you can mess up.

If you have any sort of electronics repair shop in your area, I'd go in and ask if they would charge you (and if so, how much) to simply clean the laser's lens.

But that's only if you refuse to open it up. Just make sure you aren't carrying a charge when you open it up, or don't touch anything except for the disc-reader.
