An Ubisoft representative has claimed that the games industry as a whole is dropping the 60 frames per second standard, saying that for the console versions of Assassin’s Creed Unity Ubisoft actively targeted 30 FPS rather than 60FPS because it provides a more preferable experience.

Assassin’s Creed Unity’s world level design director Nicolas Guérin made the claims in a recent interview, which echo a number of high profile voices in recent months that have claimed cinematic experiences are better suited to 30 frames per second. In fact Guérin goes so far as to claim that when development teams push for 60 FPS, the game ends up looking less like the real thing.

Movies and video games aren't comparable when it comes to frame rate. Movies are passive, and the brain fills in the missing information in between the frames, that's why 24 fps looks "better" in some cases.

Video games are interactive, and you need the best response time possible. If the frame rate is low, it feels choppy. Our eyes sees these two mediums very differently. 

Makes some sense when you think about it a bit.

Like Velox said, lower fps works for movies as they're passive, and the Ubisoft guy did say something kinda similar to that.

He says cinematic experiences, not gameplay, but that's not saying they would try to bump the gameplay to 60fps.

Pretty much admits that it's difficult for them, and that the resources it requires don't help the graphical/visual quality of it. Still, no mention of how gameplay being affected by the change to 30fps, and maybe it's not as fluid at 30fps and that's why they didn't mention it. Or maybe they just think most gamers think frames per second make things look prettier, so they just addressed that part of it.

Ubisoft has been blundering all week long. First with their "avoid debates" debacle and the 900p on both consoles, and now this. If I didn't enjoy Far Cry so much, Ubisoft wouldn't get a single dime out of me until they get their heads out of their asses.

Maybe the reason why it looked really weird is because these fucktards are not used to seeing a movie with that fps. Once it becomes a norm it would look normal. Anything new or you're not used to seeing seems weird at first.
