Like, I always choose to play as a female in games that give me the choice, and I love games that have good female characters, but I don't actively look for them. It's a nice bonus when they're there, I guess.

Well rule of thumb

1-3 almost have no story. Well 2 does, but the combat system sucks, ANYWAY

if you have a PC and steam, they have FF 3 and 4 (i'd recommend 4. In my top 3) there. And FF 7 is getting remade, so you can wait for that.

If you have a PS4, FF X got a remaster. FF6 is on mobiles which I felt is one of the better ones. A lot of old school FF fans will tell you it's the best one.

Edit: And no, none of them are connected unless specifically have a -2 by them like X-2 and 13-2, but those aren't worth playing. They all have reoccurring themes like crystals and summon monsters, but their stories are entirely contained within said games.

Well you don't really need to play them all, they don't have a connected story as I edited above.

I'd say try FF 4 if you can. It's not that tough to run in the slightest on PC, and it's also on phones. Easily one of the better soundtracks (they teach one of the songs in Japanese music classes when studying music because it's so well done) and stories.

It's so powerful and beautiful to me. A lot of what Uematsu (the composer of FF 1-10 and then the original version of the MMO of FF 14) is one of the most renowned video game composers.
