This isn't about games that are badly made like Big Rigs or Superman, but if they're badly made and you dislike them, then that's alright. What games do you really just hate, for whatever reason? Maybe it rubbed you off the wrong way or you had a bad time with it, even if it was a quality game.

My list

1: Dragon Ball Z Ultimate Tenkaichi
2: MGSV
3: Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire
4: Dragons Dogma
5: Smash Bros Melee
6: Gears of War 1+ 2
7: Star Wars Kinect
8: Two Worlds
9: Guitar Hero 3
10: GTA Chinatown Wars

Not all of them are badly made, I just didn't... enjoy them.

A couple years ago, I might have been able to give a nice list, but nowadays, I think it makes more sense to list genres instead, ranging from "I personally don't care for these kinds of games," to "why the fuck is this even a genre?"

1. Sports
2. Interactive movies
3. RTS/MOBA
4. MMORPGs
5. Survival horror
6. Racing
7. Beat 'em up/hack 'n' slash
8. First-person shooter
9. Any type of "simulation" game that doesn't actually simulate anything
10. Shoot 'em ups, with the exception of bullet hell

Dishonorable mention: Visual novels, life simulation, pornography

JUST PLAY THE SPORT

They clog the industry every single year with the same exact game, with an updated roster, and maybe some bug fixes or AI improvements. What they should do is release ONE game--one fucking game--called "Baseball," "Basketball," "Football," "Soccer," and whatever else, and then patch it over time. Because the differences between the games are simply not substantial enough to warrant further releases--but they continue to do this anyway, because they know you idiots are going to keep buying them. It's the biggest racket in the gaming industry.

Also, sports suck.

That's your reasoning?
I'd love to play hockey all the time but unfortunately it costs money to rent ice and I can't play baseball in the winter!
Also the whole thing about not having enough people to play at the drop of a hat. That's kind of important.

See, boarding games kinda make sense, in a way. Tony Hawk games are... sort of fun to dick around on... for five minutes... but I can see the appeal. Same with snowboarding games. All those different tracks and courses you can access, and all the tricks you can perform--it's kinda cool.

but games based on team sports/ball sports

just

why

Never mind, I know exactly why.

Your reasoning after "just play the sport" are just, but to tell someone "just play the sport" doesn't hold up to me at all. There is a difference between getting some friends together to play the sport, and playing the game. For me personally, I enjoy FIFA because I can become the owner of a team and dictate my roster, decisions, who plays, and how I build a team. It's fun to me to take a weak team with a low budget, and build them up over time with smart signings, wins, and trades. It becomes a game of tactics almost. And the gameplay itself is something I enjoy, and something you easily can't do IRL. You can't do those tricks and be surrounded by thousands in cheering (FIFA does crowd sound effects very well since it's soccer).

I do think your logic for the yearly release/update thing is a great one though. It's why I say you should buy a sports game over other year or 3 years, because only then are there big changes.

Edit: The reason I don't like that "JUST PLAY IT" is because it applies to other sports too. No one is telling someone who buys a racing game yearly to just go actually do it. There is a big difference.

As nice as that would be it's completely counter productive. Less money for the developer (or in this case 0 money beyond the original sale) and would ultimately create a worse game in the process. I know you like to think idealistically but for a moment could you look at it realistically.

That being said I don't like the games that don't change anything. Some games have been notorious for doing so, NHL 15 being the best example. But certain games and game series continue to make leaps in improving the game. The MLB series being made by a top notch developer.

Yeah, I was just pointing it out cause I guess they count as sports games.

Football games don't really bother me though because I'm not into football, don't have any reason to hate.

I can imagine being a football fan who can't walk or move very well and enjoying the hell out of them, though.

Which is why sports games will continue to be my least favorite genre. I don't care if it would be a "bad business decision" to make one game--it's the right thing to do.

Make it so you have to pay for the updates, if you have to. That wouldn't be anything new.

Some of the changes that get implemented are pretty big sometimes though, is it actually possible to just put them in an update?

That's the same thing though. Why would you force updates when you could just release a new thing totally updated?
Oh and the technical side of it would be a nightmare.

I don't know, I do think Sports games a lot of times are just roster updates. It's only about 2 or 3 years after another game that there is enough there to warrant a real purchase. It's the same thing as CoD at this point. Minimal effort for substantial reward. Stagnation and lack of creativity in the video game industry is not something you should endorse.

Because you could make it cheaper, for one thing. $60 a year vs., I don't know, $20 a year.

"but muh sustainable business model"

That's why it's a bad genre. They don't deserve to make as much money as they do.

emigrate or degenerate. the choice is yours
1. Fable 3. I used to religiously follow all of Molynuex's press conferences and interviews after enjoying Fable II to see what this game had to offer. After building it up to be this immersive, interactive open world universe and then to be given what was essentially a linear action adventure game with ebin fart jokes was not just a huge sucker punch to the fans, but also eviscerated the last remnants of reputation that Lionhead Studios had as a competent developer for me. If they hadn't hyped it up so much, I probably would've forgiven them. Any company that hires Peter Molyneux to design their games should have their fucking heads examined.

2. Evolve. The devs should've been charged for theft with this game. When I pay 50 quid for a game I expect a full game. Not a half assed running simulator that butt fucks me with DLC round every corner.

3. Brutal Legend. Weird attempt to blend strategy, rpg and action/adventure elements into one awkward, clunky, virtually unplayable mess. Concept was neat, execution was way off.

Those are really the only games I truly despise. It's pretty hard for me to hate a game because I can usually spot a shit game a mile off, with the exception of 1 and 2 which caught me by surprise.
