Quote from: Blaze on June 05, 2015, 10:36:24 AMQuake inspired a lot of other games. And where is Sonic?Doom was Quake's spiritual predecessor, was it not?And Sonic definitely doesn't belong up there. At least not for now. Sure, he was more popular than Mario for a short period, but he never really did anything revolutionary or important (that I recall). It was just a relatively simple platforming game on a console that was advertised really well.

Seems like a good list so far. Would've also expected Quake I to make an appearance.
Does it list the reason why LoZ didn't make the list? I'm curious of why not.

I don't understand what FIFA did differently from NFL, NHL, NBA, etc. It's just another sports game. Angry Birds was a rip-off of an older Newgrounds game that got lucky.Zelda is THE original adventure game, like Wolfenstein 3D is the original FPS.

How the fuck did the Final Fantasy series not end up on there? It's as iconic as you can get.

Or Candy Crush. Or Angry Birds.

Would've also expected Quake I to make an appearance.A great game, but it didn't leave quite enough of a lasting impact to make the list.I gotta disagree. Quake took the basics of Doom, added a console and shaped pretty much every FPS game that currently exists. The Quake engine served as the basis for the entirety of Valve's Source engine, some 007 games, Medal of Honor, the later Wolfenstein games, Quake Wars, Rage, Doom 3, Prey, and pretty much all of the COD games. Doom and Wolfenstein 3D are the godfathers of the FPS genre, but it's Quake that made it significantly faster, better, competitive and laid the foundations for pretty much all FPS games to come after. I personally don't think either of the three original games (Wolfenstein 3D, Doom and Quake) deserves to be the one landmark game for the FPS genre by itself. But if I had to pick the one that made the basic concept into what we have today, I'd go with Quake.
