Don't have a Wii U so this doesn't bother me, but Nintendo really has to step it up and keep up with what's in if they want to be taken seriously. They have a lot of potential.

I don't think splatoon is their attempt to not be taken as a kiddie company...since its splatoon. Not really a hyper competitive third person shooter so much as a colorful game where squid kids have paint battles.

Eh, I think not having chat is a negative, but at the same time I kinda respect that they know their core audience and are willing to be that one console looking out for kids and keeping obnoxious squeakers from ruining a game.

all i ever hear about when people talk about voice chat in shooters is complaints about the "squeakers"
you know, the little kids who rage/swear up a storm over the mic if things don't go their way, and be general nuisances?

splatoon is a game made for kids
you can only imagine how many squeakers there would be

i mean, i still couldn't be fucked either way, but
how in the fuck is someone gonna consider this a bad thing

Party chat effectively killed trash talking.

they kinda have a reputation for being squeaky clean--if they fuck that up, they will CRASH and fucking BURN

I mean, I understand their decision, but I don't know how I feel about it.

I guess if you wanted to play something like Splatoon competitively, you could run Skype/TeamSpeak on the side with some friends, and have a massive advantage over everyone else.  Plus, I'd probably lose my mind if I had to listen to all those kids.
