Shit like that had to be dumbed down because of the hardware at the time. Atmosphere was supposedly improved upon in the xbone/ps4/pc versions of the game

I don't know GTA V just didn't have that gutter feel GTA IV has. It was a little too lighthearted.

They're both great though.
It comes with the setting.  GTA IV was parodying the hopelessness of New York and the American Dream.  GTA V parodies the valley girls and cultural oblivion that is LA.

That's one thing I miss from GTA IV, how there's more people roaming the streets than there is in GTA 5.

I don't remember much about that game. I didn't play very far into it I think. But I loved the atmosphere for sure. Driving around at night in the rain was always just really pleasing to me.

You also see cops arresting people as well which is something I don't think you see in GTA 5.

It went full grimdark to appease the edgy kids, and thus became boring in the process.

Say what you will about GTA V but at least it was fun, and didn't have some fat slavshit phoning you every minute asking if he wants to go bowling.
