Beat my high score:

Level: 9 (starting from level 1)
Score: 72,147
Lines: 85

Felt like playing Tetris after I saw Snake's post about Tetris being a perfect game. I don't necessarily agree with that--the RNG factor of the pieces tends to ruin whatever perfection the game may have had, but it's still one of the most clever puzzle games out there.

what rng? the fact that they're randomised?

you realise the game couldn't function without that, right?

that's what's perfect about tetris -- every single facet of the game is integral to the experience. you cannot remove one piece from the game without ruining it.

ot: but let's see what i can do here

Obviously, but that's my problem with it. Since the randomness is tied into the game, that's what makes the game itself imperfect. Just because the randomness is integral to the experience doesn't make the experience perfect--Perfect experiences involve no randomness.

Ideally, games should be focused around your own skill and wits alone. That said, I think Chess is a better example of a more perfect game.

when i say "perfect", i mean, "perfectly made"

no game could ever be perfection, obviously. it's too subjective.

what's that about?

You score more points if you clear more than a few lines simultaneously. Clearing a single line only nets you a little. Doubles and triples are worth more. Quadruples (or Tetrises) are worth the most (I don't know the exact numbers, but I'm sure it varies from game to game). My strategy was to set the blocks up in such a way that I would be able to plunge the skinny "l" block down a narrow empty column to score multiple Tetrises.

So, if I had to guess, you probably only scored singles and doubles.

You also score a little bit of points based on how fast you can successfully place the blocks. If you take forever to place the blocks, you'll only get, like, 2 points--but if you act immediately, you'll get around 20.

ah, that makes sense

see i normally plan out where my current piece is going to go, and then look to see where the next piece will go to plan ahead. i rarely use the "speed up" function.

this version of tetris is extremely unforgiving, as soon as you touch another block it snaps to that one

Beat it with 70% of my skills being used

I'm a lot more effective when I can see the next blocks, and if the movements are a lot, lot, lot, lot more smoother than this version.

Also, I made a small mistake which caused me to fail, but if I go at it again enough times I can probably get to level 20

I don't get it, why do you stop sending lines before reaching 100?

See, I decided to take this a bit more seriously, so I used 80-86 percent of my skills, and the stats I got were

Level: 18
Score: 184,164
Lines: 172

reaching level 20? That's a given with how slow things were going. If I used 90% of my skills I'd be able to get to level 30.

Edit: Wait a minute, 184,164/72,147=about 2.6
18/9=2
172/85=about 2

That means that I got at least double what you got, so on paper that means you're half as good as I've been playing, and I've only played twice.

That may be, but it's all an alternative way to getting power. The pure way is strength and violence, but such a person can easily be defeated by more people. If there was however one person that could take on a nation with fists alone, then that person would have all the power in the world.

That person would be who we all try to be.
