Oh boy, this thread will be crashed soon...

I am not a fan of that...

As little as I am a fan of Greenlight. If there's no qualitiy control it'll soon turn to the mess that Greenlight is now - people creating shit and wnating money for it...

Who mods Skyrim via Steam Workshop anyways?

People are already selling mods on Steam workshop that you can get for free on Nexus.

I guess because of the accessibility...

On the bright side maybe this will finally convince Valve drones that Valve is just as bad as EA and Activision.

I actually really like the idea. Modding can often require a lot of effort and it's cool to see developers recognizing this by allowing content creators to be rewarded for their time. Those Skyrim mods they're advertising look professional.

Greenlight and Early Access show that what's going to happen is that a bunch of shitty low effort mods are going to be flooding the market and charging out the ass for things that either don't or barely work.

Why? Because you don't actually have to put any effort in what you're doing to get valvedrones to buy your shit since they lack the capacity to think critically.

Then you add in the fact that they aren't even really being paid for their work since they're only getting 25% and that money is apparently being given to them in Steam dollars. Basically Valve is making 100% of the profit.

Literally none of this is true. 100% of profit goes to the content creators via direct deposit to their bank account.

lolwut

Also there's nothing professional about this.

You have to use the fucking console to spawn his item into the game.

You have to use the fucking console. It's not even a complete mod that you're paying for. This is Early Access for mods.

Weird, several press releases I read stated that neither Valve nor the developer will act as a middleman to the payments and that content creators get the fees.

Care to link to them? Because they're lying through their teeth then. Valve clearly states that modders only get 25% on their information page.

The angel agreed to trade a set of white wings for the head of another demon. Overjoyed, the demon killed one of his own and plucked the head right off its still-warm body.

The angel then led the demon to heaven, where he underwent centuries of the cruelest tortures imaginable. Finally, the pain was so great that he lost consciousness - at which point his dark wings turned the promised shade of white.

Unlike other curated games on Steam that allow users to sell their creations, this will be the first game with an open market. It will not be curated by us or Valve.

I don't think it was clear. it's not even on the content creator FAQ. I searched the site for this information before searching for third party articles about it because I couldn't find it on Steam.

Okay. I tend to judge professionalism in modding with respect to quality and interaction with other mods, but I guess the method of spawning the item is what I should've been looking for.

They say you are what you eat, but I don't remember eating mYsELF
You have to use the fucking console.
At least he tells you the item's name and how to get it. I can't tell how many mods I've downloaded for TES games where after I'm finished installing them I'm left clueless as to how to obtain my new armour (or even find out if I've installed the mod correctly), with no obvious description from the modder on where to even begin looking.
However, I agree that if you're paying for it, it would be nice to have the armour seamlessly added into the world - perhaps put into the merchant's stocks and appearing on NPCs in the game. Though surely you can't expect every mod to be like this, you'll get shit ones and you'll get good ones.

It's not like that at all. It's the creator giving players a specific way to spawn the item. So what if it doesn't appear in a specific spot in the game? Shitloads of mods just add equipment to the game files without any hint of where or how to get them.

And there are more convenient ways to do that; spells or just placing it directly into the inventory.

The fact that many others are doing it even worse doesn't justify doing it just bad.

A spell to spawn armor? More clutter for the user interface. Added directly to the inventory? Have fun adding more than a few at once and having to manage that and go store it somewhere next time you log in. I've seen better ways to add gear to the game, but bitching about using the console (a great tool for PC gamers) is incredibly nitpicky.

People whining about a specific market of paid mods are the embodiment of entitlement.

It's in the earning money section.

Most mods come with some sort of readme or description on their page that tells you how to access it. At least on the Nexus. Steam workshop is a piece of shit so I don't use it. There's also the fact that those mods are free. When you're selling a product you should make sure it's at least working properly before putting it on the market.

Of the Skyrim page, not the general announcement FAQ. That's what I'm talking about.

Nexus releases fuckloads of broken mods. I really dig the 24 hour trial period for the mods, especially given the track record for mod creators to release broken or incompatible mods and just ignore it from there.
