And it won't be the mess that Crash HD was because Spyro doesn't rely on pin-point accurate platforming to be a game 👌👈 👀

For real.

I'm not sure if I want to buy Crash again on Switch but I still haven't 100% all of them yet

going by this one screenshot

the plainness of that astroturf grass texture, along with that specifically gross shade of green, is really off-putting to me—i don't like to see a lot of just one or two colors everywhere, it's just a nightmare to have to look at

castle in the background looks dull and uninspired, with bland earth tones + no visually striking features whatsoever, like something i'd ignore if i had the choice (compare it with the iconic princess peach's castle from mario 64, a game that i think looks just as shitty overall)

it's just one of those things that hasn't aged particularly well, imo—i understand the limitations of the PS1, but there are games with "worse" graphics than spyro 1 from a technical standpoint that still manage to look more visually appealing to me, like MGS, which came out on the same month, or mario 64, which is a game i don't even like

the new version at least has a lot more colors and dynamics, like some pavement to break the monotony, which is not only sensible but easier on the eyes, and while the new castle is still pretty bland with nothing special about it, i'd still consider it an improvement, just with how acceptably decent it looks

i always thought spyro himself had a pretty cool design, though

Its cool that this is coming out on Xbox as well, but I'm not too sure how to feel about this remaster.

I will always appreciate the actual game on the PS1 more since I grew up with it at the age of 5.

Looks good. I was never able to get into them as a kid, kind of like Ratchet and Clank, so I'm glad there's a remaster coming out.

so i'm "replaying" (and by that, I mean, really playing these games for the first time) on the ps3 and i'm pretty blown away by the atmosphere here. i can't quite articulate it yet but the simplistic visuals and upbeat drum-based soundtrack really come together to form a nice mood for every stage. i've only come across one not-so-good track. the boss fights could really use some sort of introduction or something, though. the last one i defeated i thought was just a regular enemy until i realised i was on the boss stage and had just gained like 50 gems from his death. the difficulty mostly relies on managing to get around the floaty controls of spyro. tutorials on how things like supercharged gliding work could be a lot more helpful, too. the camera moving quicker and being tied to the right joystick would have been a nice touch but it's understandable that it wasn't included, considering a lot of players might have still been using the original ps1 controller (that didn't have any joysticks at all). nothing overly original here but insomniac were good at improving other people's ideas. i'd say this is a much more competent game than crash bandicoot was for its time.

i still find the visuals to be quite charming.

i think the only people to have done a remake successfully are 343 with their CEA and H2A remasters. They were faithfully retextured with the exact geometry of the originals still intact. that's my main problems with what i've seen so far. something is off about the remake the detracts from the game for me.

This is not the greatest sig in the world, no. This is just a tribute.
on one hand, oh my god yes, Spyro 2 is absolutely my favorite ps1 game and I wanna see Elora's fawn tiddies in high definition

on the other hand, oh my god no, Spyro 2 is absolutely my favorite ps1 game and I only wanna see it the way I remember it so fondly in.

Uh-oh.

I've been sitting on this topic in /v/ for a few days now, honestly it doesnt look bad. My only concerns are that they need to fix the lighting....how they will capture the weird backgrounds of the original, and the soundtrack.

the geometry is all off. spyro is tiny in comparison to his surroundings in the originals, which helps convey the underdog motif. it also lends itself to the world being much more than the player.

343 got it right with H2A. Its CEA they fucked up with.

When you switch to remastered visuals, the collision system doesn't line up, hence breaking the immersion of the world.

Not that the original game didn't do that, including but not limited to getting out of the level 343 Guilty Spark and getting to the entrance of where The Flood is early, only to see Assault Rifles spawn and randomly firing because you got into the trigger box in an alternate path that didn't even get tested on.

While a lot of the bugs made Halo CE unique as a game, the remastered graphics only changing the visuals which do not match the original collision system at all not only fucks up the gameplay, but actually slows down the engines performance on the 360, thus breaking the game.

And to keep this relevant to Spyro. I can only hope it stays completely faithful to the way Insomniac designed it. Unless its Insomniac themselves remaking it.

I think the remakes of Ruby and Sapphire pokemanz did a good job too. Same with the newest Fire Emblem. Resident Evil 1 as well.

The soundtracks for the first three games were always some of my favorite from any game. I know the drummer from The Police composed them.

All it is, is adding detail to a very basic area. Those kinds of changes I'm fine with. Lots of basic grassy areas in Spyro
