Can't remember the default storage on the various versions of 3ds either. Non proprietary cards so should be k, but might be something think about if you're going digital (annoying carrying around cartridges imo).

What the hell is a living dex?

BTW you don't need to know about EV/IV/breeding shit to play/beat these games. The majority of games I played, I didn't even realize those mechanics were present.

Play in this order:
Platinum
Soul Silver
White
White 2
X
Alpha Sapphire

That should give you a good start. Skip Platinum if you want, a lot of people don't like the region. Soul silver is widely regarded as the best in the series.

living dex is when you have one of literally every Pokemon( for example you have a charmander, charmeleon, and charizard), as opposed to just completing the pokedex when you would most likely only have a charizard when you're done

A local gamestore had a 2DS with pokemon Y combo pack + additional memory card + carry case for $80. the regular 3ds is made for baby hands anyway. Since the 2ds is a big single piece I feel like it's way easier to hold

I guess I just don't see the point in the living dex thing. Once you've had a Charmander grow and become a Charizard, I can't really see myself ever wanting a Charmander and a Charmeleon again. Is it to just make your collection seem more complete? I mean, have at it, but it just seems like a lot of extra effort. There are over 700 of these things now, remember.

most people do it to make completing dexes down the road easier. For example if you have a living dex in ORAS, when the next generation comes out with new Pokemon you can just bring over all you old Pokemon and only worry about catching the new ones, rather than having to breed/catch and train Pokemon you've already caught and trained.
