Guardians were developed and deployed many millennia before the Flood appeared, and were just one of the tools that the Forerunners used to ensure their power and influence in the galaxy. Utilized throughout Forerunner history to audit any potentially belligerent sentients, Guardians could swiftly quash revolts or be deployed in advance as an imposing threat of force, but they were useless against the rise the parasite. Before activating Halo as a final defense, the Forerunners buried remaining Guardians on isolated shelter worlds, where they would remain dormant until called upon to serve the Mantle once again.

Literally what?
How in the hell were they useless against the Flood? You'd think being able to EMP the living fuck out of everything in a goddamn solar system would be the exact thing you'd want to use to keep the flood contained.
Am I missing something? can the Flood suddenly fly into deep space under their own power?

EDIT: oh that's right, logic plague....the flood needs a fucking nerf. 343 pls fix

OK then another question. what do you reckon the Guardians' exact connection with the domain is, since even the covenant and  sangheli seem to have been well aware of the connection.

I'm honestly surprised you guys still care about Halo lore after they've been butchering it since Reach.

Are you somehow forgetting that The Flood were the Precursors and had control of Precursor technology?
Are you forgetting the Logic Plague?

The Flood is a near unstoppable force. Floaty bird things are nothing when you have the ability to literally tear through entire planets.

The best stuff in Halo's canon was Halo 4 and the stuff surrounding it (other than the Travesty books) but it looks like when it came to Halo 5 they threw everything they built up into a furnace and had Reed and whoever else come up with....well whatever Halo 5 was.

Also the Domain is of Precursor origin. We don't know if the Flood has any connection to it, although considering they could utilise Precursor tech, it isn't out of the realm of possibility that The Flood could somehow affect the Domain.

Warden Eternal: I could tell you about the power of the Guardians and how they sacrificed themselves to save the galaxy. I could tell you of Mendicant Bias their ancient enemy. Lately those tales have stopped now the children are frightened anyway...

an hour and a half later of contextlesly slaughtering hordes of covenant

John: Cortana how are you alive

Cortana: I dont even have time to explain why I dont have time to explain.

One 30 minute bullet sponge in a room overpacked with trash-mobs  later

Agent Locke: It's a day for pretty speeches and medals, but the real fight takes place out there.

Did it? Oh. Well, I couldn't care less now honestly. The entire universe is something I lost interest in, and since I don't have an Xbone, and I hate the direction the games went in terms of looks, yeah.

Edit: Also I said bungie fucked up reach, so your le 343 hitler thing wasn't really matched right

"You are young. I am old. I am dead."
I'd say it more comes down to probability than anything regarding the logic plague and Precursor architecture.

Precursor architecture was reawakened and serving the Flood for only the final ~10 years of the war. Same goes for the logic plague, it only reached epidemic proportions at the end of the war. So why weren't Guardians useful for containing the Flood? Well, it largely has to do with the first planet the Flood infected when they re-entered the galaxy after they left ~9,000 years prior. The world they infected was indeed Forerunner, however, it was not a part of the Ecumene nor was it officially documented. This means that Warrior-Servant response was slow and this allowed the Flood to enter slipspace and move on to infect further worlds.

However, the best worlds to infect were Forerunner ones as well as the most numerous. Guardians were never stationed on Forerunner worlds as that was not their purpose. To play devil's advocate though, let's say that these civilizations that required policing from a Guardian were counted as being a part of the Ecumene. If we ignore physical distribution of these planets and just focus on the numbers we know there are 3,000,000 worlds a part of the Ecumene. Based on 031 Exuberant Witness' reference to a Guardian, we know they numbered up to 9,999, however the actual number was likely less. We'll just assume they had 9,999 Guardians for the sake of the argument.

Doing the math, there is a third of a percent's chance (0.33%) of a Flood ship encountering a system being policed by a Guardian ASSUMING that the Forerunners counted these worlds a part of their Ecumene.

So, for every Guardian the Flood encounter, they will have infected 299 other worlds. Of course, if the Flood just only focused on populated Ecumene planets (which they probably did initially), they'd have just ignored the Guardians entirely.

Plus, I'd say that there's a good chance Forerunner technology is somewhat immune to electromagnetic pulses. I mean, when you're building and messing with stars, having all your equipment wiped out in a flare isn't exactly helpful. If Forerunner tech is immune to EMP in any capacity, then it's perfectly reasonable the Guardians weren't effective against captured Forerunner vessels. After all, that wasn't their intended use; the subjugation of 'lower' species means they would be highly effective at interplanetary (Or smaller) civilisations by using their EMP attacks but leave Forerunner equipment unhamred.
