Their defense is you could go into Call of Duty and troll someone and then change your gamertag after so the person you trolled can't find you.

A much more likely story is that they just haven't made anything that would allow you to do that and they just made up that excuse on the spot.

They've had 8 years to make it.

People are taking this out of context. It's because Sony can't track anyone other than by their name. Your Xbox live name is linked to an ID number. You can change your name but you're still tied to that ID Number. Sony didn't think to implement this so if you're a hacker and get reported, then change your name Sony wouldn't be able to track you.

You're forgetting the part where PSN is a taped together rush job that was put out so Sony could say "Me too!". There was no forethought or planning with PSN and it's been super apparent from the issues that have been plaguing it since release.

Especially if it's a female gamertag.

You're phrasing it differently than the article does. They obviously have to have a system in place to prevent people from abusing name changes in order to harass others.

They're not refusing a name change option, and have said repeatedly it is something they're working on, its just a mess for them to work across all the psn platforms because they didn't plan for it properly.

That's some terrible foresight by Sony

20/20 hindsight. 2006 was a long time ago tech wise. I'm sure there a lot of silly mistakes being made right now that will affect future consoles. Have to remember PSN wasn't a paid service like Xbox Live was for all those years. They're still playing catch up in some areas.

True they have stepped up their service, if things go well gamers can only expect services to get better.

There is nothing either good or bad but thinking makes it so.
Love life; but take nothing too seriously.
Well, I guess they're technically not wrong.

the one true God is Doctor Doom and we should all be worshiping him.
PlayStation Network doesn't use GamerTags.
