We should be able to. If not I have the file on my 360 anyway. I think its all Halo 3 DLC though, not sure about ODST. Would be cool if they unlocked Recon and Bungie for good on all accounts including new ones.

Not really, no. The BR is chosen because it's the starting weapon that takes the most skill and puts everyone on an even playing field. It's absolutely balanced. You can kill someone with a sniper or even rockets if you're smart enough.

based on that premise, my point is that the percentage of viable weapons in halo (like, 6%) is far lower than the number of viable characters in super smash bros. melee, for example (about 33%)

if there are more weapons to use than the BR, then that's fine, i just think games where all weapons are banned except for the most boring one is retarded

The BR is just a good baseline weapon. It's versatile and takes a lot skill to use. At long range, it'll get owned by the beam rifle and sniper rifle. At short range, it's useless against the shotgun, mauler, brute shot, hammer and energy sword. At close to medium range, the assault rifle puts up a fair fight and the needler is better in most instances. At mid range, it's challenged by the carbine and vastly outclassed by power weapons like the rocket launcher. The BR just puts everyone on equal footing from the start, removes the randomness of assault rifle duels, promotes higher skill and makes it so that you have a weapon that can at least do minor damage at longer ranges.

You can take any weapon and do perfectly fine with it in the right circumstances. But that doesn't mean that the game is unbalanced when you run straight at your opponent with a shotgun and he takes you down well before you can get to him. It's like type weaknesses and strengths in pokemon.

that in itself is a balance, sure, but challenger was trying to paint the game in a really really bad light, because he's just not as good at explaining things

that said, BRs may be a good "baseline," but that doesn't make them any less boring, especially if it's the only weapon you're allowing in the game
