Why do people insist Destiny is an MMO?

I've seen it for a while, but increasingly over the past week since it launched. People have been complaining that it's too short to be an MMO or not challenging enough to be one. They've seriously forgotten, and even failed to learn that Bungie NEVER intended it to be an MMO. They intended it to be an action game at heart.
Of course, it does borrow MMO elements but only to improve the experience of the typical shooter we play every year. If people actually viewed it as an action-adventure shooter type of deal with some MMO elements then the ratings could easily improve

It doesn't matter what the intent of the designer is when they go out to make something, what matters is what people use it for. If people see Destiny as an MMO it IS an MMO. The game has elements that every MMO has; RPG Progression, Persistent Online World, 3 main classes (Warrior, Rogue, Mage), Town (Tower), Grinding, Raids, Quests, ect. The game is an MMO because of what it has. Saying that Destiny isn't an MMO is like saying Mario Bros isn't a platformer it's a jumping game. Semantics.

"Minimally multiplayer online RPG"

I was blown away when I realized there was no chat or clan support at all.

Because it has all the worst elements of an MMO

- Grinding
- Always online
- Grinding
- More Grinding
- Small rewards for hard work
- Random loot
- Sneaky little subscription service.

The more I play it the more I'm starting to hate the game, all the end game content is is the stuff you've done before but with harder enemies in greater numbers, sounds well and good for re-playability except it's tedious, the hardcore enemies are damage sponges with 1 hit kills and don't even start me on those ridiculous Strike bosses that take over 10 mins to fucking kill.

The game at it's core is an MMO. Bungie can call a cow a sheep all it likes.

See you Cowgirl,
Someday, somewhere
They built it up to be a huge open world game, but instead we got 4 repetitive maps with kill boundaries.

"flaming nipple chops"-Your host, the man they call Ghost.

To say, 'nothing is true', is to realize that the foundations of society are fragile, and that we must be the shepherds of our own civilization. To say, 'everything is permitted', is to understand that we are the architects of our actions, and that we must live with their consequences, whether glorious or tragic.
Because people are dumb, and despite Bungie stating before they even announced the title of Destiny that their next game wasn't going to be an MMO, people just read "Bungie, next game, MMO".

I mean, it should've been fairly obvious to anyone with some kind of functioning brain that it wasn't an MMO. Bungie repeatedly said it wasn't, they announced very early on that you'd go through the game in a max party of 3 while being able to encounter other players, the Demo showed that in-world the max player count was ~12, and there were no signs to support that it was an MMO despite it having some of the common RPG elements that MMO's have.

Because Bungie decided to borrow many elements from MMOs.

Elements that were obsolete 5 years ago and have been greatly improved since then in the MMO genre.
