I would say it's expensive at £28, but watching the trailer I can tell a lot of work has been put into it. What I wanna know is what the Pirate King Pack is all about. It costs £360

I don't support early access, but I'll check it out when it's actually released.

“The game is fully playable, low in bugs, and well-balanced. Players have been enjoying the game over 13+ alpha versions we've released since our Kickstarter in October 2013, and many have reported enjoying the game for tens or hundreds of hours.”

"“The price may rise after Early Access. We're not sure. "

Why would I listen to what the developer has to say about what other players think about the game, and why should I support an obvious attempt to leverage a lower price for early access purchases? Purchasing unfinished games for full price is bad for the gaming industry.

You seriously can't think of a reason to listen to what people have to say? Sure, you might not trust the developer, but at least do a fact check. You wouldn't really need to, since in this thread two people have already talked about how seemingly great the game is, and both of these people have said that it's a 10/10 game.

You should buy the early access because it's not only cheaper, but because people have said that it's fine as it is, and well worth the price. Yeah, it might improve, but judging by reviews and the trailer, it's already a great game.

No; I can't think of a reason to listen to what the developers say what people think about the game.

I disagree with this business model as it perpetuates predatory entries into the early access program. Maybe the game is 10/10 as-is. That's great, and I'll give it a fair shake when it's finished.

It gives you an entry point. Is the claim true or false? If I get the answer to this question it could be quiet an important piece of information.

If you have the patience to wait, go ahead. My opinion on early access is that if the developer deems it playable, it can be released. Updates will come along but if no more work were to be put in it, and it'd still be a good game, go for it. Sure it might give developers who aren't done with the game coverage to do the same, but I think it's up to the consumer to not buy such a title. You have to have the judgement to make the right decision.

as with any crowdfunded project it relies on the trust of the investor that is also a potential customer

as long as you understand what you're getting yourself into, you fully accept that as long as the people carrying out what they set to do on their pitch - have reached the minimum viable product, that your money may not have necessarily been put toward the product that you want to see, but the product that they've achieved

it's not bad for the industry, it's bad for the uninformed would-be consumer that thinks investing into a pitch is the same as buying a product or preordering one, and I believe this lack of understanding turns into a huge grey area when people aren't satisfied with what they end up with

what people need to realise is that they're not buying a product, they're investing in an idea that has yet to happen

I see no problem with crowdfunding games, as long as people know what they're buying into, it also may push people into being more careful with what they fund and being sure that they might not get what they want; should they accept that fact when handing over what is essentially a donation for the project, they'll understand that it's all about trusting who you're investing in

it's not a business model until it's the release candidate

you don't yet have a product, you have part of a product that you're sharing with your investors as a indicator that their money is being put to use in the right places

when it comes to the people who pay up though, and in one of the worst case scenarios, this could just be a kid who likes the kickstarter teaser trailer with parents that have loose wallets - not a big-wig publisher that understands the industry and clutches his purse strings tightly with many questions and critical thinking honed with years of experience working in the industry

when it comes to kickstarter, anyone could be an investor, but what they are NOT when they hand their money over, is a customer, and go on to complain when they don't have the product they want

furthermore, crowdfunding provides a platform for projects and ideas that would otherwise never see the light of day, that  just asks the question: "do you want to see this product? we can make it happen if you trust us enough"

instead of centralising the decision process, you don't have to impress one or a few men who may not know much about the actual games entertainment value, and is more about the business aspect; you pitch your idea to people who want to see it happen regardless of whether or not "business predicts x or y", and sometimes, a truly great product comes out of it. you have the potential to reach out to a lot of people who stand by your idea and think that it's a good one.

again the biggest problem is the misinformed investors who believe they're entitled to the same rights as when they're buying a product

all in all, crowdfunding is a good idea let down by misplaced expectations, when a project goes well, the person is satisfied and that's that. when it doesn't go well, people start wondering how they're going to get their money back, and are going to be vocal about it when they don't realise they didn't pay for a product

you're more likely to complain about a product that is broken than you will speak about a product that does exactly what you want

I completely understand the point of EA and other crowdfunding options, I just don't want to support them. I prefer to be a consumer, not an investor -- especially in the oversaturated game market.

I am genuinely happy that this game is doing well and look forward to its release.

The market of EA games has a large ratio of shit to quality games.
