Gonna need a laptop for college and since I'm a nerdy little bitch I'd like to play WoW again (haven't in the past few years because skewl is hard)

I'm not asking for a ultra high gaming rig, just any suggestions for something that can open Microsoft word and run WoW at 30 fps

WoW was made back in 2001. Even with the graphics update in Cata, a toaster should be able to run it in 30fps. My 2011 laptop ran FFXIV on medium settings in 30fps, I imagine anything now can do WoW at 30.

you can run it on just about anything at low or medium settings. you can build a pc for under 1k thatll run it at ultra if you already have necessary accessories (monitor/kb+m/speakers or headphones/etc)

Re-read the OP. He said a laptop for college, not a PC from scratch.

anything really

id recommend a laptop from asus or dell that isn't a netbook with an atom processor

if youve heard bad things about either of those brands in the past, theyve been doing very well the past couple years and are among the top for lowest failure rates within 3 years for laptops

that said the bracket for failure between the best and the worst is only a difference of about 5%,  most modern laptops with a skylake processor should be enough for WoW

Why would anyone want to play vanilla WoW? No one has the time for the grind a classic MMO has anymore. It's one of the main reasons FFXI had to change its formula, why WoW scrapped it completely, and why Runescape became a no-name MMO. Yeah, WoD really fucked up WoW with Twitter and Garrison bullshit, but forcing people to slog through endless bullshit isn't fun.

I don't even know what Nostalrius is, I just feel the nostalgia meme about the 2.4.3 private server era.

Nostalrius was the most popular private server that only went up to WoTLK (I think, either that or BC) content. Basically most private server players shun everything Cataclysm brought to WoW, even the good stuff.

Runescape is still pretty popular. And it's not just the grinding that some people want back. Over the year abilities have been pruned to the point to where rotations are stupid easy, LFD and LFR destroyed the social aspect of the game, etc...

After playing WoW for a bit, I looked on to all the forums and posts about Pre-cata WoW, everyone pretty much says the same thing they say about XI and RS. MMO's back then are too time-consuming for people's lives now, and I have to say I kind of agree. When I graduated HS I used some of my grad money on Toontown because I used to play it a lot back in grade school and it hasn't changed much content wise. While the game was stupid easy, it was still a heavy heavy grind and I wouldn't have made the progress I did in that game if I had the job and social life I do now.

My best friend opted out and going to see his Aunt because his Linkshell was doing a weekend event back when XI was still very popular. He didn't know that was going to be the last time he could've saw her before she died of some illness. He's not loosing sleep over it or punishing himself with unjust guilt because there was no way he could've known, but with the way MMOs are now, he could've been able to do both. I imagine with WoW having such a substantially larger player base, I'm sure there's thousands of other players that have had similar experiences, and all the posts I see now while they do admit the social aspect is kind of gone, the ability to play and enjoy the game with a group of friends is still there.

And I wouldn't say the lack of socializing is something that's only plaguing WoW and MMOs, it's merely a symptom of an issue affecting people in games all together. It wasn't unusual in Halo 2 and 3 to have people talking with their mic while playing. Now in 4 and 5, I have to mute everyone because it's always someone intentionally making noise in their headset to piss people off.

Runescape is still pretty popular. And it's not just the grinding that some people want back. Over the year abilities have been pruned to the point to where rotations are stupid easy, LFD and LFR destroyed the social aspect of the game, etc...

I agree it's too time consuming. I don't even have much time for XIV as it is already. I was mainly pointing out the social aspect though, and pruning, which I hope they don't do too much with Stormblood.

Removing skills and streamlining the rotations. For example, my Hunter on WoW. I basically press 3 buttons. That's it.

BM has one of the most ridiculously easy rotations in the game to be fair. Survival is a LOT more intensive.

Yoshi said not to worry about it. The amount of buttons we'll be pressing will stay the same, it's just certain abilities will be removed or swapped with others.
