4K gaming. Does anyone care?

Sup, haven't posted here in a while, been drowning myself in the cancer of Halo Waypoint.
I just gotta ask, does anyone really give a shit about 4K gaming? because Xbox and PS are pushing it right now, but honestly I think I only know about 2 people who have a TV that even supports 4K. TV's with that quality don't quite seem to be a household norm yet, definitely not like 1080p is.
Curious as to if this is a feature people are urgent for? will you go out and buy a 4K TV now? do you already have one? etc.

People should literally just stop buying consoles and buy desktops they can upgrade as the years go by.

It would probably save them money, given how they're throwing £300-400 every couple of years at a platform which won't have the potential of a PC. And, I mean, what the fuck? It's not even a new console. It's just a fucking hardware upgrade which isn't going to be supported by many console games at all.

As a pc gamer I have no interest at 4k right now. I'd rather have games with high fps/quality at 1080p than a game with medium settings at 30 for 4k.

I mainly want a higher quality desktop for work reasons and not games, but would I love to have a 4k? Yeah. Do I care that much? No.

at the moment 4k is just a buzzword to move units as most people don't have tvs and monitors capable of supporting 4k resolutions and they won't until they come down in price

i doubt that many of the games coming out will actually support 4k as well because of this

I'd like to play total war in 4k but it's not doable at the moment with university and living fees I'd very much enjoy it since it is a very cinematic game.

At Walmart I seen a 4k TV which they have on display, to me the picture of it is no different than the non-4k TV's. Yes the image is sharper but it's not sharp enough or special enough where I'm going to get one, especially for the price they want for those TV's. For 4k gaming I know the graphics look better but 1080p or whatever doesn't look bad either. If someone offered me a top of the line setup for free I would take it, but I would not buy one even if I had the money to. At the moment you would be paying way too much for what you're going to be getting.

It won't be relevant until we start getting mainstream 4K TV channels, e.g. BBC 4K.

And even then, it won't be a few years until everyone is on board.

tbh 4k isn't that big of an improvement compared to the jump from SD to HD. with 1080p it felt like a revolution and people wanted in on it, with 4K it's just "that's neat I guess but it's too expensive still"

Technically it's a larger jump in quality, but when using a TV screen of average size, from a normal viewing distance, the difference isn't big enough to the naked eye to warrant an upgrade for most people.

And even if we talk about pure numbers only there's diminishing returns the higher up you go - though we haven't really reached that point yet. But actual quality isn't always the same as perceived quality.

I don't care about it, but if it was affordable, sure. Playing on lower resolutions doesn't detract from the experience at all for me.

it'll still eventually get super cheap and the pixel density at computer-distance around 2 feet away from the screen will eliminate the need for anti-aliasing at the cost of running it at 4k lol

other than that nothing else really and wont be worth it for a good while as long as AA is still around
