honestly, once you make it past that point, the game really ramps up

s/m are notorious for having the slowest and sloggiest introductions in the series, especially if you're an older fan

i can understand being turned off by the game's atmosphere and characters though

I suppose it's normal to be excited for silver/gold rather than ultra shit.

I have no intention of buying US/UM, which is a first, having played every other game in the series since red and blue.

If you're buying then please do a review. Bear in mind that I thought X/Y, OR/AS and S/M were garbage, so I'm totally biased towards the direction of the new games.

to be clear, there was no such announcement

they only confirmed that US/UM will be the last 3DS games in the series

that doesn't necessarily mean that the franchise is moving to the switch; they could easily introduce a new handheld

I'd certainly want to just move on to Gen 8 instead, kinda like when we didn't get Hoenn remakes in Gen 5 and moved on to Gen 6 immediately
