When you get a perfect Cutiefly but accidentally release the parent with the Destiny Knot and have to reset to not lose the Knot
would've just grinded for another one at the battle royal place tbh
Saving up for a mega stone, it's fine because I was able to get another 5 max IV Cutiefly, I just need to get it to have those IV's go into everything other than attack

So who's participating in the global mission? I'll probably try to catch 10 extra each day I play. Easy stuff like Magicarp or Route 1 catches.

Anyone have a quick and dirty guide to breeding/EV training? I've never bothered with it but it seems interesting.

wasn't really sure what you were talking about until i went to the festival plaza

Only in Pokémon could you set a number like "100,000,000" as a goal and have it be realistically achievable.

Last I saw the number was at like 3 mil.
...In 3 days? So it's definitely realistically achievable. Maybe you forgot what franchise this is?

I assume the sparkling around the stat means the EV is maxed out

Finally beat the game. Excited for the post-game--it looks to be pretty expansive (compared to gen 6, anyway).

Post-game is very underwhelming: You get a Looker quest and a Battle Maison clone. It's as bad as X and Y.
And ultra beasts, guardian deities, the rest of Poni Island, mega evolutions, story updates for major characters, more music options for link battles, etc. but most importantly the ultra beasts. 10x better than XY.

I don't know what else you could ask for except for a Battle Frontier thing, which wouldn't make sense in the context of Alola.

I so badly want to read the thread but I still need to wait another 3 weeks until I can finally play it. The pain is real yo.

I posted this from the first page of thread so no spoilers still, heh. I'll catch up eventually.

Another beginner question: Which stats should be EV trained? Do you normally do two full stats, or one full and two halfway maxed? Also, is the only way to reset EVs through berries in Sun/Moon?

It has a lot to do with what are using. Generally, always max out two stats 95% of the time--and always max out the best two.

Say you have a Chansey, whose base stat spread looks like this:

Notice how HP and Sp. Def are by-and-large Chansey's best stats. Therefore, all EVs should be invested in those two stats and nowhere else. Investing in Attack, Sp. Atk, or Speed would be a lost cause, because they're already so low by default that investing in them wouldn't make a real difference. So, focus on honing Chansey's greatest assets instead.

The same general principles apply to all other Pokémon. If you have a Machamp, invest in Attack and Speed. If you have an Alakazam, invest in Sp. Atk and Speed.

There are some cases where you'd half-invest in three or more stats, like Ferrothorn. Smogon recommends that you fully invest in HP while half-investing in both Defense and Sp. Def to create the most balanced defensive wall possible. Smogon in general is a great resource for this sort of thing.

As for resetting EVs in case you fuck up or want to start from a blank slate, I think berries are the only way to do that for this generation. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong on that.

The stat you want to train depends, for something like I'm going to be training a Muk in attack and defense to have a more bulky Muk that hits hard. And yeah, it's usually two stats fully trained and then the remaining points can just go into something else, but it's not a lot of points.

Oh yeah--after maxing out two stats (252 EVs apiece), you'll have 4 EVs left over.

You can invest these anywhere else--it doesn't matter and probably won't make a huge difference.

Thanks for the info. As for resetting, I only ask because I haven't done anything for my 20 or so mid-40s-50s pokemon, so I assume their stats are pretty messed up by now.

Yeah, most people just breed to ameliorate that issue. Blank slate, fish for better natures and IVs, etc.

But yeah, if you wanted to use your old buddies, they'd have to go through the berry treatment.

At what point are you in the game? Have you beaten it already?

I recently got to Poni Island and I've just been messing around leveling up some different pokemon and trying to catch some of the more interesting ones. My current team are all around 50. I don't really mind breeding and retraining my favorites (I'd probably just give them the same nickname and pretend they're the original). My team composition has been pretty bad so far though (poor type matching). Is there a resources that discusses building a basic team? I don't really want to just copy somebody else's exact team and movesets.
