Maybe it's to do with knowing the games better than when I was younger but I think there was a lot of design choice that made it a piece of cake.I wouldn't say mind-numbingly easy this go-around, but at this point, I've conditioned myself to make the games more challenging in my own ways. That said, I honestly had a couple "well shit" moments against some of the Totem Pokémon.Just turn off the Exp. Share, avoid using Z-moves, and try using Pokémon you've never trained before. It also may not hurt to impose some kind of item restriction, but that's approaching nuzlocke territory.

I believe Exp share was nerfed this gen so some grinding is still required to get an evenly leveled team even when using it. I've noticed the game can be very easy if you use the Pokemon you get from various trades in Pokemon Centers. You can get an early Machop right before you do the Normal trial, and that thing will stay relevant throughout the game even if you don't decide to fully evolve because it gains exp ridiculously fast due to being a trade mon. Avoid those and you should be fine.

Calm down, gamefreak you edgelords.
It has been known to become so angry that it dies as a result. Its face looks peaceful in death, however.
