Buying another game is probably just gonna result in more data failure. Gen II is near-unplayable at the moment.

some people do sell the games with a fresh battery. they may be a bit more expensive though, i'm not sure

kinda defeats the purpose of having an original gameboy with no games to play. all i have is tetris and pacman but my highscore don't save on those either (not that it matters with those games, at least)

I don't really care about collector's value, so I'll probably pick it up once I come into some more money.

Gen 2 and a lot of the Gen 3 Hoenn games are pretty much fucked, especially trying to find a copy that works if you don't have one already.

Surprised yours lasted as long as it did, I couldn't find one with a working battery when I looked, and that was in like 2010.

no they use flash memory so don't need a battery

Different problem.

Flash memory starts failing past 10,000 read/writes. Not sure what sort of a timescale that is for games, but they aren't incorruptible.
