Oh, hey.
I played Total War up until the revolution one, I played Rome 1, Total War 1 and 2, and have always felt that the original Rome total war was my favorite. I have always been on the fence about getting the 2nd one because of all the technical issues it had early on.

My question is, is it better/just as good as the original Rome?

My advice would be to skip Total War: Rome II. Even after all the patches it still feels and looks unfinished to me.

I honestly just wouldn't bother with it, unless you feel you absolutely have to play the game.

You will find out who you are not a thousand times, before you ever discover who you are. I hope you find peace in yourself and learn to love instead of hate.
Yes it started out terrible but it's pretty solid now however I'd recommend Shogun 2 or Attila. More fun to play imo

I'm a sucker for Roman related things. Does it have mod support on steam? And is Shogun really that good? Japanese culture back then is really cool but not enough to sell me on it tbh.

Yeah there's a bunch of mods for Rome 2 on workshop, Total war has a decent modding community.

Shogun 2 is great, the in game landscapes are nice, the player objectives are fun, and the units have a great variety.

I'd recommend Attila (since it's what Rome 2 should have been), but if you like the time period then yes. Updates and mods have made the game NOT broken. However there is a lack of a family tree and other political things leaves much to be desired. If you have more questions let me know. I know all this way too much.

And yes, if you get Attila, I have mods that would make it much more acceptable.

Don't believe these lies. One of the main criticisms of that game is lack of unit/faction diversity.

between factions yes, nothing really sets them apart except their colours, however from the course of the start of campaign to late game you have like 30 units to pick from which is decent

Yeah but they all look the same D:

It's confusing to look on the battlefield when they all look the same. It's just not appealing to the eye.

I had to just set it back to DX9 to avoid that. Annoying since I couldn't use all the graphics options I wanted, but that was the only solution I could find.
