the days before he became a spartan don't count
He, and other Spartans, had skirmishes with Covenant before they got the Mk V armor.
the days before he first landed on halo, then

Those skirmishes Prime mentioned happened before he touched down on hula hoop.

Most likely, any time after though, he probably only stepped out of his armour, give or take at the maximum,4-5 times.

Atmosphere is hunky dory for oxygen breathing lifeforms.

The whole point of this thread is the gameplay changes that would arise from such vulnerabilities.
well, he dies if he falls five feet with his armor

so

i'd imagine that if he took one step w/o armor, he would explode and cry (in that order)

Halo CE's fall damage is abominable, I agree. All Spartans have a phobia of staircases.

Thank you Verb. Didn't see that one coming.

That being said, I'd like to see you try landing a jump five feet off the ground if you weighed approximately 1 ton.

I'd hate to say it but Chief would be nothing without his armor. All the marines and ODSTs he killed in basic training was thanks to that armor.

http://halo.wikia.com/wiki/MJOLNIR_Powered_Assault_Armor
umm, no
he's literally a superhuman. at 18 years old, he killed two highly trained odsts and injured the other two. the fight didn't even last a minute.
his bones are virtually unbreakable. he can run up to 55 km/h. his reaction time can't accurately be recorded, but estimated at 20 milliseconds. he can lift 3 times his weight out of his armour.

also, stop using halo nation. it's a bad wiki. halopedia is the one you should use.

joking aside, i think the biggest change is that he'd have a harder time handling plasma weapons due to heat trauma

though i wouldn't be surprised if he's handled plasma weapons out-of-armor before, too, because MC is such a mary fucking sue

unless you lightly punch him in the back

as far as i'm concerned, if it doesn't apply in-game, it's irrelevant
in-game, he can only run at, like, 10 km/h

Assassinations != lightly punching somebody in the back. Getting hit by someone wearing mjolnir armor is like having a ton of bricks smack your back. That's the amount of force it takes, storywise.

Game logic wise it's a scripted weak spot. Even if you made all players invincible in Halo 3, you can still kill them by hitting their backs.

this thread is about game logic, though

i'm not talking about assassinations, anyway--i'm saying if you try to punch a jackal in the face, it won't be enough to kill it

so, game logic-wise, the punch isn't that hard (as in powerful)--everything just has a glass spine

Gameplay has never been canon in Halo.

Linda sniped a pilot out of a Banshee with one hand whilst hanging upside down from a cable. She won't be able to do anything similar in Halo 5, but it doesn't make her abilities irrelevant.

Try killing a jackal on Legendary by punching him, and then call it weak. Your punches in game aren't weak btw.

you act as though the game has to play like previous ones, and not be designed around the aspect

i dunno, they could've worked around that somehow

point is, he would die--and he wouldn't last long, either
otherwise, why bother with the suit at all

Let's put it this way.

Out of a suit, a spartan is equal to a squad of marines in terms of combat efficiency.
In a suit, a spartan is equal to a platoon of marines in terns if combat efficiency.

Halos are designed to support life, you know, ironically.

He'd survive because plot armour. The same reason he's survived the entire time.

He'd survive because of plot armour. It's literally the reason he's survived everything. He could just as easily be replaced by Fred 104 and there'd be no difference because of plot armour.

His armour isn't his plot armour. His plot armour is that he's written into the story in a way that he'll survive no matter how unlikely.

It used to be called his "luck" in-universe. It's actually because everything he has done was planned hundreds of thousands of years beforehand, in-universe, of course.
