Are there any good modern examples? I know Star Wars Galaxies had its vendor system completely driven by players, meaning you could put something up for sale (ex: armor, weapons) and anyone on that server could purchase it from you, and it worked really well.

You will find out who you are not a thousand times, before you ever discover who you are. I hope you find peace in yourself and learn to love instead of hate.
runescape is a great example of this, it works on a supply vs demand model.

His eyebrows sparkling, his white beard hangs down to his chest. The thatched mats, spread outside his chise, spread softly, his splendid attos. He polishes, cross-legged, his makiri, with his eyes completely absorbed.

He is Ainu.

The god of Ainu Mosir, Ae-Oine Kamuy, descendant of Okiku-Rumi, He perishes, a living corpse. The summers day, the white sunlight, unabrushed, ends simply through his breath alone.
Runescape
Maplestory
EVE
WoW, to a lesser extent iirc

It sucked seeing a lower level walk around with a Santa Hat worth 27 or so mil at the time because he or she played the market with the shit eating clans.
