I've got a build-it-for-jew specs list here and it'd be appreciated if any of you can critique it
It's a buy it one obviously, but spec wise is this a good build/can you see any issues with it?

If it seems like a good one, i'll feed the components into part picker and see what the price difference looks like for buying it individually/having someone build it. This^ is sitting at £1000 which is about the cap of what I would spend and it would be good to get it cheaper than that tbh but ye

(Compatibility wise the site didn't show any issues but I'd double check that later)

Are you sure? I kinda want this to last a while for gaming. i7/GTX 970 seems to be recommended for the sort of games I'd want to play at high/ultra.

Where does it say that? It says 4GB on the GPU or do you mean something else?

who recommends an i7 for gaming?

http://wccftech.com/nvidia-geforce-gtx-970-memory-issue-fully-explained/
it's a pretty funny/interesting issue, but it probably won't affect much lol

Bethesda and Creative Assembly for Fallout 4 and Total Warhammer, recommended is i5 but high/ultra is i7.

Huh yeah
well i'd only be playing at 1080 on one monitor so it sounds like that wouldn't be too much of an issue for me

i dunno man. as far as i know, the i7 really only improves in performance in very specific use cases that don't include gaming, but i could be wrong.

Hmm, well it's within my budget (at the limit of it mind you) and if it's overkill in the present at least it will suffice for a few years

Yeah listen to RC, an I5 is perfectly fine. Seems pretty good otherwise except:

>Windows 10

But is it though?

The specs from two games I'd want to play both suggest an i7 for playing on high/ultra

and if there was any way I could have windows 7 installed, i would.

I'm sure it can be done but if i'm gonna splash money on a pc i'd want one that easily outclasses the consoles I have <_<

even if i'll be playing on the xbone primarily anyway (JSDF ;-;7) it's gotta have enough punch to it tbh

You will find out who you are not a thousand times, before you ever discover who you are. I hope you find peace in yourself and learn to love instead of hate.
I hear i7 is good for Total war but it's not significantly better than an i5 however you're not poor just futureproof that shit

yeah definitely get an i5 you wont notice a difference with the i7. And personally id go for an r9 390 over the 970. Same price but performs better and has more vram. if you wanna stick with nvidia tho I understand

My GTX 980 suggested an I7 just for having that GPU in my computer, works perfectly fine with an I5.

If for gaming, go i5 and best GPU you can get.
You can also find cheaper MS products on /r/softwareswap.
The internet security shit looks sketchy.

How much extra are you paying to have it built for you?

Yeah I don't like it and it seems to be bundled with any prebuilt/built for you (few sites)

dunno as i've not really settled on having it built, kinda just window shopping for specs atm

then i'll find one i like, compare the component cost with the built/shipped cost and see if it's a notable saving or not

hey
I mean, I've had 10x worse than what was recommended for a game and I was able to run it on high, sooo
Recommended specs seem to mean different things for different games

Some are just to run on normal at like 1080p 30 fps

And some are to run the game at max at like 1080p 60 fps

Same with min specs, it seems sometimes

If future proofing is important to you then you should be spending more on the gpu and less on the cpu. An i5 with a gtx 980 would perform miles ahead of an i7 with a gtx 970 and would be roughly the same price.

It looks like an i5 would be around 150
an i7 around 200-250

whereas a 970 would be 250
and a 980 would be 400

so maybe i'm getting jewed but that's the price in sterling
i5+970 = 400
i5+980 = 550
i7+970 = 450
i7+980 = i don't shit money

I think a 980 is out of my price range really, 970 is the best i can afford to go for
but I can stretch the extra 50 quid for an i7 over an i5 >_>

er
I think one is just the product code or something, it's only the one

Either way the one in the OP isn't looking like something I'll be going for because after a bit of shopping around it looks like I can get a 980 for the same kind of price. I'm just poking around at different places for the moment though, but depending on how things go I might be able to get an i7/980 build for quite a reasonable price <.<

You're right. 980 is a bit pricier than I thought. If it was me though I would still go for the i5. I just don't think the i7 is worth the extra cash. Just look at this video: https://youtu.be/Vvd_leZqSyA

The i7 (especially at this level) really only outperforms the i5 in video rendering. I personally think you'd be better off pocketing the money. You can't go wrong with either though.

Ye

I've been looking at a few options today though, I think i'll be fine to get a 980/i7 prebuilt fairly soon
that way it'll last me for a good few years to come <.<

nvidia just announced their new pascal cards

better than titan x performance at less than half the price with both the gtx 1070 and 1080

released later this month, with new geometric ref cooler design

you could either go with your current build or wait for the new cards to come out

that said i can sell you my gtx 970 for super cheap if I want to get one of these soon but dont count on it
