tl;dr - Back in the day Ninty and Sony were thinking about teaming up to make a console. Eventually the deal fell through and they went their separate ways. This is a prototype for that console.

If the deal did make it I see them controlling the market to the point the Xbox would have been pointless to come out. Sony is good at hardware so I see them making the system and for exclusives that's where Nintendo comes into play.

You forget about Sega, who also was looking into a deal with Microsoft. Chances are if Sony and Nintendo paired up, Microsoft would be more inclined to go with Sega's black box prototype (A dreamcast prototype), Nivida would also probably keep their potential deal with Sega for hardware.

The only reason the Xbox exists is because Sony ended up not partnering with MS for the Playstation 2.

Funny how Sony has a habit of letting these deals fall through.

Looking at where Sega is at now would that deal been all that great compared to Sony and Nintendo's deal?
