Because it just happened to me with FIFA 16. Beat Chelsea in a penalty shootout by the goal keeper doing a heroic dive. I then run towards the bench to celebr- nope

Goodness gracious, great balls of lightning!
When I was 10, I had NFS: Most Wanted and I was addicted to that game. I had finally made it to the very final boss race and once I won, the game froze and my progress was lost. This happened multiple times and not just once. I never really beat the whole game until a few days later when my game worked properly.

Total War games seem to make a habit of doing this after a crucial battle.

I don't think I'd have that patience.

I remember Fallout 3 on 360 froze on me as I was crossing a bridge between buildings, and every time I loaded that save, it crashed immediately. It was right out of the door so it was an auto save.

My last real save was around 4 hours back. I didn't play for a while.

I had a really dodgy copy of Pokemon Emerald that would freeze and lose the save file really easily. Even the slightest bump could do it. On my first attempt of the Elite Four, I saved after the battle against Drake(?) and it froze during the Save process, corrupting the file. I was pretty mad. Didn't touch the game for like 2 years after that.

Why have I not seen this gif before? It's hilarious.

The angel agreed to trade a set of white wings for the head of another demon. Overjoyed, the demon killed one of his own and plucked the head right off its still-warm body.

The angel then led the demon to heaven, where he underwent centuries of the cruelest tortures imaginable. Finally, the pain was so great that he lost consciousness - at which point his dark wings turned the promised shade of white.

The main downside of playing NES games on a genuine NES is that some of the cartridges are so old or so worn, the games will just freeze whenever they want to, making it impossible to play past certain points without rigorous cleaning sessions. And sometimes the game is just fucked.

Additionally, the battery used to store save data back in those days sucked ass--if you wanted to save in Zelda 1, for example, you had to remember to hold the reset button as you turned the power off, otherwise your data would go kaput. And sometimes, even that wouldn't work. This is why password systems, though tedious, were generally superior.

For a more contemporary example, there is a Zelda compilation disc called Collector's Edition for the GameCube. It comes with Zelda 1, Zelda 2, Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, a couple of neat promotional videos, and a demo of Wind Waker.

The Majora's Mask port, unfortunately, is heavily prone to freezing. Any time you entered or exited a door (or at least, all the ones that make the screen fade to black as you enter a separate area), you risked a game crash. This was a huge problem, because Majora's Mask isn't one of those games where you can just save whenever you want to. Since the entire game is based around a short three-day period, chock-filled with time-specific events, the developers figured that players shouldn't be able to save whenever they want to--otherwise, that would sort of defeat the purpose of the three-day cycle. There would be no tension in getting all the shit you need to do done before your time runs out.

So the main way to save is to play your ocarina to go back to the beginning of the three-day period. Doing this, however, makes you lose all your dispensable items. You're back to 0 bombs, 0 arrows, 0 rupees (unless you left them at the bank--this is the only thing you can store before you go back in time). And, of course, all the side-quests you completed are essentially nullified--since you went back in time, it's like you never did them at all. So saving in this game was a very daunting commitment.

The only other way to save is to access these owl statues scattered scantly across Termina. Using the ocarina allows you to fly right to them, like in Pokémon, but that requires you to stop what you're doing, and you might be doing something incredibly important (like dungeoning). On top of that, these owl saves are only temporary. That is, once you access the "owl file", the owl file is destroyed, and you can't access the same owl file again. This is to prevent save-scumming your way to victory in a game that requires you to make good use of your time.

*Phew*

Okay. So that's why you can't just save whenever you want. It's not necessarily a game flaw--the developers were just adamant about maintaining the game's theme of being itinerant.

They wanted to make it so every time you saved, it took away a piece of your fucking soul. That's my guess.

HOWEVER, this becomes a big problem when you have a shitty port that freezes 10% of the time whenever you enter/exit a door. Once the game freezes, you're done. You're fucked. Whatever you were working on before the last time you saved is completely gone and you have to do it all over again, because the game doesn't allow you to save whenever you want.

I've had to redo whole dungeons because of that shit. I had to recollect all those stray fairies--by myself, with no guides, because I don't like to ever use guides. Not fun.

TL;DR
Majora's Mask had a shitty port on GameCube that froze very often.

I've had to redo entire dungeons because of the way the game's save system works.

Oh, and whilst not necessarily a crash, my copy of Super Mario: All Stars+ Super Mario World had a corrupt file for SMW, so trying to play that specific game results in a black screen and a buzzing noise. Not really Vital, but still, I'd have preferred to have lost SMB 2 instead tbh.

You will find out who you are not a thousand times, before you ever discover who you are. I hope you find peace in yourself and learn to love instead of hate.
Yeah it's a commonplace in TW: Attila, no need for me to get into that I'm sure you're familiar with it.

Rockets on my X
I remember fighting Artorias in Dark Souls on a low level character.

The most damage I could hit on him was 68 per shot. I literally had to pull a flawless fight taking no hits from him.

I wittled him down to about two hits left on his healthbar and my fucking controller died on me.
