For both campaign and multiplayer apparently. They can also be turned off if you wish.

From IGN: "New medals have been added to both Halo: CE and Halo 2 for campaign and multiplayer," 343 told us. "There are nearly 100 unique medals in both Halo: CE and Halo 2. We felt this addition would make the multiplayer experience feel more modern and give players more ways to track their progress and style. For players who want a classic experience, medal display can be turned off for Halo: CE and can be toggled between off, classic medals, and modern medals for Halo 2 Classic. Campaign medals are awarded for enemy and style kills as part of the unified campaign scoring system, which is a new variation of the systems in Halo 3, ODST, and Reach."

343 also tells us that they'll share more details about the medal system this week on Halo Waypoint.

Campaign scoring isn't in Halo 4.

I know that, I misread the article and assumed it would be in all 4 campaigns for the MCC. Just 1-3.

Thank GOD I can turn them off.

Hopefully they allow up to turn them off in H5 as well.

That's good.  Seems like IGN is spreading a bunch of misinformation lately.  First they said shooting the ghost tank to blow it up didn't carry over from h2 to h2a now this.

343 jut can't stop themselves from touching mmy childhood, can they? I refuse to buy any Microsoft game from now on because of this disgusting change that has been needlessly added in to a game that is more than perfection on its own.
