In Silent Hill 2 early on, you go to Neely's bar and there's a message on the wall. If you go back there later on there's a new message on the other wall. There's no indication that you need to go back there so it's a nice little touch.

While I haven't played witcher 3, I remember hearing about a bit in the ZP review where you're going to see the king or something and you have to trim your beard, have a hair cut, dress up fancy and stuff rather than do what you do in say, Skyrim, where you go to meet Jarl Elisif in your mud and blood-spattered daedric armour, eating six cheese wheels, hauling a dungeon's worth of loot and barging in on the existing war council meeting.

I appreciate that. Adds a sense of immersion to the world. I'm not all too intereated in TW3 but stuff like that I can really appreciate.
Aren't you forced to wear the chef's clothes?

Don't know, haven't played it.

I'm just reciting what was said on zero punctuation.

I like stuff like that. In Silent Hill the protag's head will slightly lean in the direction towards an item or object of interest. Better than a big floating marker.

The angel agreed to trade a set of white wings for the head of another demon. Overjoyed, the demon killed one of his own and plucked the head right off its still-warm body.

The angel then led the demon to heaven, where he underwent centuries of the cruelest tortures imaginable. Finally, the pain was so great that he lost consciousness - at which point his dark wings turned the promised shade of white.
Water and rain effects. Proper footsteps.

Some other things I was thinking about today:

In Halo 1-Reach, every gun had a different, unique sound when you walked over it to get ammo. This was a small touch I always appreciated about the Bungie Halo games. And in CE and Halo 2 when you walked over weapons to get ammo, you'll get a prompt on the screen that would say things like "Picked up 12 rounds for Sniper Rifle" and this was something I missed in future Halo games as in those, it would just show a "+36" on the ammo counter. Also one last thing, I always loved how on the HUD when you had the Rocket Launcher equipped for example, the ammo counter on the screen would actually be rockets instead of tiny squares like they used in Reach. I hated those little squares.

Another thing about MW2 I just remembered was the frost that would appear on your guns on snow maps and your HUD would be icy on the corners too. This was really noticeable on the Model 1887s and I really liked this nice little touch. I think Blops 1 did this too but I don't remember.

And lastly, if there's one thing I enjoyed more about GTA 4 than GTA 5 was the ragdoll effects. You can drive a Hummer or another type of big truck around Liberty City and flip over any car in your path easily. It was hilarious and always a good time.

‘The most inoffensive user on this website’ - Verbatim
I enjoyed going past those purple things in Halo CE and hearing a light radio buzzing, and some of the other ambient sounds throughout the game. In MP they took the time to make some bases the exact right height to crouch-cancel the fall damage too, and I love the Needler and Ghost sound effects.

In Smash 64 I like the sound effects in general, and in particular the added Skeleton bipeds for when a character gets electrocuted, and the other electrified effect when getting hit by Samus' charge shot.

In Twilight Princess I'm a fan of the taunt Link does whenever he pulls off one of The Shade's kill moves or kills a particular enemy. They've also done well to make the friction of Ice just low enough to punish particular movement habits the game subtly makes the player develop in the leadup to Snowpeak Ruins. The clever cunts. Midna's semi-voice-acting ingame is p sweet tbh.

Lego Racers has some wacky shit that I like too. Dark Forest Dash in particular has some ghosts and shit. The shortcuts are cool too, I'm disappointed that only the San Francisco Rush games have paralleled the creativity in that department.

I love that in Battlefield 1 when you spawn your gun is all clean but as the match progresses it slowly gets more and more dirty and covered with rain if the weather changes, washing off the dirt.

Halo CE: Compass on the Assault Rifle always pointed towards Threshold (Gas Giant).
Metro: The tone of the breath changes as the filter becomes dirty.
Dark Souls (specifically Sens Fortress) Every trap can be avoided if the player is paying attention.

I liked that in Transformers: Fall of Cybertron, you could swap if your character was right or left handed on the go for whichever suited firing around cover best.

I generally don't like Transformers but god DAMN those first 2 games were good.

I generally don't like Transformers but god DAMN those first 2 games were good.

War For Cybertron was a great game when people wern't glitching their class into Flying Tanks with Thermo rockets.

Pushing around your team mates in monster hunter is pretty fun.

It has some great practical use too since you can use it to help them avoid an attack, mount a monster or knock them out of status effects (sleep/stun).
