Is there a level cap for free players or something?

The game is free to play.

You can either buy characters from earning gold you earn in-game or paying with money, same goes with skins. They change the playable hero rotation every other week.

The max level is Level 40 but every character has their own rank and the max for them is 20 I think.

I hit Level 40 the other day and now I'm currently working up my character levels.

For what I've played it as much of a grind or more than League of Legends.
