Is the Kinect really necessary with XB1?

So later this month I plan on buying the XB1, but I don't want the kinect because I see it as nothing more than an add on that just gives me shortcuts via voice and gestures. Is there any reason beyond these shortcuts that its good for. I rather not waste the money on it if I won't use it.

Nope, not really. There is no Xbox Guide, pressing the center button just takes you to the dashboard. It is kinda awkward trying to navigate to your XBL party and friends list and shit, so voice commands help a lot. I hope they implement a guide feature again. The Xbox 360 was almost perfect.

That's what snap is for, they've improved Party and are adding friends and messages for snap in the next update, as well as a friends section in between Home and Store

Yes and no. Xbox is actually being cool with their updates so the menus and such get better and better, but kinect is actually nice. If you aren't in a very noisy area I'd recommend it.

Plus supporting voice and motion recognition is good for the future.

Hmm, now I actually wonder something. Would my ancient fucking TV actually support a kinect? Would it even support the Juan? I remember with the 360, there were cables for HD and my old heaper doesn't have that, so I left them out and everything wis still okay.

Not really necessary.

But I like having one so I can have a webcam when I stream and the ease to navigate through the menus when I'm eating or away from my controller.

From what I've seen on my XB1, you need an HDTV port in your tv.

Nope. All of the next gen consoles require a HDMI port.

Oh joy. So my price total of 8 or 9 hundred bucks for a Juan now fucking skyrockets to several thousand. Now I definitely can't afford that shit.

All you need is an HDMI port, that is the only way you can hook up the Xbox One. The Kinect hooks into your Xbox One.

Yeppers. Fuck me sideways. Buying a Juan is going to cost me roughly a house or my truck then. I don't have that kind of money to spend.
