So it’s looking increasingly likely we’re going to see a Switch remaster of Metroid Prime Trilogy coming within the next few months but a Swedish retailer has listed it for next month. It’s more than likely it’ll be a full remaster (beefing up the graphics to match the capabilities of the switch + 60 FPS).

I’m personally really looking forward to it as I grew up with these games and I would love to see how Echoes will look with better graphics as I think it’s the game that can benefit the most from a makeover.

although neat if true, i personally have no use for this—i'm perfectly content with the originals, and i actually need to get back to playing prime 1 (i'm liking it, but it doesn't really grab me the same way super metroid does, hence why it's on hold)

i do have at least one friend who's been waiting for this trilogy to drop on switch, though, so i hope it's real for his sake

I enjoy the original versions and the trilogy versions in different ways. The originals are great because of the GameCube control scheme, difficulty and sequence breaks in almost every room like Super Metroid although some criticism I can lobby towards it is some of the poorly designed fights for the GameCube controls.

The trilogy version is good because it’s a visual overhaul that helped the first 2 fall more in line with how MP3 worked and the motion control scheme is probably the definitive way to play all 3 despite me preferring the GC control scheme. The trilogy version runs smoother, has great controls, some nice bonus content like the Fusion Suit and has replay ability in the way of credits to spend on OSTs and concept art which I thought was a smart way to lengthen the game.

The Switch remaster is something I want primarily because it’ll be similar to the GC control scheme while running at a very smooth frame rate with much more beautiful environments and updated sound bites (as much as I love the games, a lot of the sounds don’t really hold up well, the power beam sounds rough as hell). There’s also the possibility of Echoes finally getting online multiplayer compatibility given the multiplayer component is there although it was local only when it was first released. Still though, local multiplayer using the joycons wouldn’t be the worst either.

Prime 1 imo is the weakest instalment in the trilogy, while most put corruption on the bottom of the 3 I think it’s deserving of second place but it doesn’t come close to Echoes. Prime 1 has way too much backtracking, scarce and uninteresting bosses that last WAY too long aside from the final boss (fucking 20 minute fight with one of the bosses on the highest difficulty because his RNG likes to go for the one unpunishable move 90% of the time) practically 0 difficulty aside from the segment to power bomb (which is a fucking landslide in difficulty holy shit) and an annoying as balls scavenger hunt. Echoes suffers from the scavenger hunt problem as well but as soon as you acquire the dark visor you can literally acquire over half of them and they’re easy to find because you can find their outline in the normal dimension.

Goodness gracious, great balls of lightning!
I hope it releases for the Switch. It'll save me the hassle of plugging in my Wii U and finding the perfect spot for the motion control thing on my TV stand.

One thing I just remembered about a Switch Port, what are the implications of MP3 in it? Considering MP3 was pretty much a demo in all aspects for the capabilities of motion control, there’s quite a few gimmicks in it that make me wonder how Retro would manage to change it to Switch controls.

His eyebrows sparkling, his white beard hangs down to his chest. The thatched mats, spread outside his chise, spread softly, his splendid attos. He polishes, cross-legged, his makiri, with his eyes completely absorbed.

He is Ainu.

The god of Ainu Mosir, Ae-Oine Kamuy, descendant of Okiku-Rumi, He perishes, a living corpse. The summers day, the white sunlight, unabrushed, ends simply through his breath alone.

I'd hope they would take a page from Mario Odyssey's book with joycon gyro control options; it could roughly the emulate the Wiimote pretty well I'd think.

Pretty excited honestly, I've always struggled with motion controls so it'll be nice to have the trilogy in a more convenient place than the Wii.

I’d love for there to be an optional joycon control like Odyssey but given MPT’s lack of any other control scheme despite the fact that New Play versions of the 3 games with exclusively wii controls were made means Retro will probably only work with one form of control scheme.

Retro spent about a year incorporating Wii Controls into MP3, so my bet is if they’re working it to be similar to the GameCube by using the Switch’s basic controls that’s probably the only option we’re going to get. I’m not sure I can see Joycon working with anything even including MP3.
