Spartans are gullible as fuck.

Well they're all basically family after knowing each other for like 30 years.

My dad and I are close as fuck. I've known him for 20 years, but if he fell of a bridge and then woke up rambling about  my grandmother being alive in Sudan, my first priority would be getting him to a hospital.

Chief literally and without exaggeration does whatever he wants at the beginning of Halo 5 [paraphrasing a Ms. Palmer here], but it's only when Infinity confirms that potential contact had been established that Fred and the rest of Blue Team truly cement their faith in the importance of the mission. Throughout the mission you hear them making quips about how dead Cortana should be and how it doesn't make sense for her to be in Meridian, but it's only after Lasky phones in that Fred calls BS and the rest of Blue Team follow suite.

Additionally: It is Blue Team we're talking about here.

Goji's point up above sums it up nicely. That and the fact that the II's all share a close bond. It's something a little more than just one of companionship or comeradship. They trust each other absolutely.

For instance. Take Chief's experience with Kurt. It's noticable that all Spartan II's have some inherent trait to them that's boosted far beyond others. John's is luck. Linda's is awareness and focus. Kelly's is speed. Fred's is hand to hand. And for Kurt, it was intuition and compassion.

A funny feeling that John at first didn't listen to, but eventually gave Kurt orders, that if he ever had that funny feeling again about a mission, to notify the others and him of it.

Most of the Spartan II's share a bond that goes beyond just physical time spent together. The fact that all of them can't hardly show social cues in their armour, but all of them know each other by sight, is another good example.

Their trust in each other is absolute, and for good reason.

True as that may be, it doesn't explain Lasky and everyone else aboard the Infinity.

What? Believing John or not believing him?

Believing him. Unlike on Requiem where he had other witnesses,and was interacting with ancient supertechnology, here His testimony was flimsy at best and even that is pushing it. I mean his mental health was shaky as was, but then he fell down into a pit, got knocked out and then woke up ranting about a long dead AI being alive on some random planet. You'd think someone would at be even a little skeptical.

Maybe after Requiem everybody started to take him a little more seriously.

Let's actually think about this over the course of the series. Chief has said or done a metric fuck load of stuff that's otherwise not conventional and risky as fuck.

In Halo 2, he flew a bomb by himself into a Covenant spacecraft, in the hopes of leaving it there and exiting the ship's vicinity before it killed him.

In Halo 3, he pushed for going through the portal to the Ark when everybody else questioned Cortana's mental state at the hands of the Gravemind, and nobody knew what the fuck was on the other side.

The only reason he was questioned in Halo 4 is because the previous captain, Del Rio, was mister wait and see. He was a cautious ship captain because the Infinity was the first and only one of it's kind along with its crew.

Notice how Lasky had Chief's back and Palmer sure as fuck did nothing to stop him when it was only Del Rio who played Chief off.

The UNSC literally confirm that Cortana is alive in the same mission.
